Tires... New question

Sorry if this has been ask/answered before. Had a Marathon fail this weekend. Trying to decide between the Michelin XPS or the G 614. Weight on trailer wheels is 10,500#. I hear lots of 614's fail. I have not heard of any xps failures. The XPS would not give much safety factor weight wise. Tread wear is not an issue. I will never wear out tires anyway. I do have wheels rated for 110#/3750# so I can go either way. I would especially like to know of any XPS failures. Trailer is a 2010 3605. Thanks in advance.

Michelin's are good and many of us have had good results. Your information on the 614's is incorrect, however. Many of us swear by the 614's and wouldn't run anything else. Several folks have had wear issues, but the only failure I'm aware of is someone who ran over a pair of scissors. I'm sure they fail at times, but so do all makes of tires.

I had a G614 fail. It thru the tread off and did $1,500 damage. I replaced it, with another G614.

I switched out my Marathons for G614's and really love them. Now have about 6000 miles on them and they are wearing like rocks! Highly recommend them!

I still haven't heard of any XPS failures. It doesn't have the capacity of the 614's though. Still undecided . Thanks guys.

I have XPS Ribs on mine. About 5 yrs and 14,000 miles and they show almost no wear. Very happy with them. Off hand I don't remember anyone ever posting about a Rib failure.

At that weight most any good E rated LT tire will do just fine, with Ribs being the top of the list but also most expensive. I'm at the same weight and used to have BF Goodrich and then after the recall they put Michelin LTX's on(I think that's the letters lol lol, so many can't keep up with them)......It's your money but there's lot's of more resonable priced LT tires out there. Just do a search and it will bring up lots of posts on the ones people use. Heck on my last trailer I had Goodyear Wranglers and they did fine up to when I sold her.

I would email Lonnie and ask him, he is our tire expert. I can't say I would go with the G614 again.

Hi OZZ

I am on my second set of G-614’s on the trailer and have a little over 15,000 miles on them. They are wearing well.

I put Firestone TA’s on the TV at the recommendation of the commercial truck tire dealer I deal with. They have about 40,000 miles on them and they are doing well.

Either choice will be far better than the Marathons. I have been running Firestone TransForce LTs, for years without any problems. Plenty of good tire selections out there.

Your weight is like our camper, I went with the BF Goodrich Commercial TA's and they seem to perform just great.

Well, a bit of a curve. Discount tire would not put the XPS on. They said has to be the same rated tire or more. Putting the g614's on. Oh well.

One tire Lonnie recommends is the Bridgestone Duravis. They make two models, the 250 and 500. I put 500s on my 3400RL and solved my tire problem.

G614 on. I do like the tread design. Would rather have the XPS but maybe I won't have trouble with the good years. For u guys that are running the 614's how much pressure are u running?

I think I would find a different tire shop. I have a trailer of the same weight and Discount Tire had no problems installing first the BF Goodrichs and then the Michelin LTX's after the recall. If your trailer has an ST tire on it like Marathon or Powerking then the LT tires will do fine. Usually it is the places like Walmart and Sams Club who will not install a tire that is not from the factory. But my old trailer an Alpenlite came from the factory with LT tires, it weighed in at 12,5k lbs.... The difference in weight rating from an ST to an LT is 3-500 lbs per tire, which is a joke. Put the max weight on a ST tire is a ticket to disaster.....10k lbs on the axles is well within the limits for LT tires...
