Reading comments from another thread, someone made a comment about "things forgotten". This got me to thinking.... why not start a "fun" and "entertaining" thread about some of those "things" we've forgotten. That could be everything from forgetting your car keys in the ignition and locking the door to forgetting your spouse was in the gas station rest room and you left, to forgetting to unplug the power cord from the campground post and you pulled away, to forgetting to close the dump valve and you removed the sewer cap!

I'll start. I never run water into the camper and leave the hose turned on. I always fill my fresh water tank and use the on-board water pump. Then disconnect the garden hose. A couple days ago (at our campsite) I starterd filling the water tank and walked away. I got involved in something else and "forgot" the water was on. About 2 hours later, water was gushing out the overflow and had a flood on the ground. It did not hurt the trailer or anything, but I felt bad about loosing all that water unnecessarily. I am very water usage conscious!

I can't tell you how many Hummingbird Feeders I've left across the country! LOL

Maybe a different sort of item i forgot…
…to winterize my washing machine a few months ago. Blew the lines out with air and forgot to treat the washer. I need to hook the rig up and de- winterize it and test the washer to see if lady luck smiled on me this year.

As far as forgetting/leaving things behind at a campsite…I’m running ahead of the game for now. I have picked up and found more items than i have lost.

Trying to get into a particularly tight site, I was taking longer than usual. Noticed I there was a couple vehicles waiting to get by as I was partially blocking the street. I hurriedly finished maneuvering, got out, lowered the jacks, set the chocks, unhooked the emergency cable, pulled the hitch release, and started to pull out. Forgot the tailgate.

Those things are expensive. :blush::facepalm:

6 campers and a long time ago I had an old Road Runner that had a water heater on the road side of the rig, about half way down the side. That water heater had a standing pilot light.

I pulled into a gas station, (long before my diesel truck days) and started to fill up the old 5 MPG Chevy. About 1/2 way through the water heated decided it was time to warm up some water and I heard the familiar "whoosh" when it lit, although I had never heard it when I was surrounded by gasoline fumes!

Didn't tank me long to get back there, open the panel and shut it off!

I've always wondered how lucky I was that day. Never forgot to shut it down before travel again!

Sorry this doesn't have anything to do with camping ... years ago my husband and I rode to work together since our places of employment were only a block apart. He would drop me off and pick me up after work. One night he went home without me and didn't notice until he'd been home for over an hour!

Coming back from Mexico at Tecate, the guard wanted to see inside the Monty so back I go with him, show him through, he's talking about how his wife wants an RV to retire in, we come out , walk to the front, I get back in, he hands me our passports and released us. I pull away and crunch, the stairs are still folded down and are now all bent badly against a huge cement traffic block. With help, I fold them enough to pull away from the booth and to a place to pull over and tie them up as best I could. Got a replacement step set for free from Morryde in Elkhart, Indiana while there on an unrelated repair.

Thins I have forgotten

I also did the water fill forget. We were in the desert in New Mexico, I hooked up to fill my tank. Went inside to get a drink and the wife suggested we go for a walk. About an hour later we returned to a river running out of the campsite.

But, the biggest forget. We were set up in a campground near Gunnison Colorado. We decided to move to a site about 80 miles away. I hooked up, drove to the new site and realized as I was setting up that my TV antenna was still up! Managed to go 85 miles without hooking it on an overhead line or a bridge! I now hang a bright yellow flag on the handle when it is extended.

I am sure there will be more to come!

Update: Lady Luck did in fact smile on me! Hooked up the water…suburban IW60 fired up and ran hot, and washed a test load in the washing machine. No leaks anywhere.

Update on what else I forgot a few years ago…our 2017 Laredo 37RL travel trailer was the first rig I owned with black tank rinse. My routine is - drain the black tank with the rinse turned on…close the valve and let it fill up a bit…then open the valve and drain it again…repeat until clear water comes out. One time I got busy breaking camp with the hose filling up the tank…FORGOT TO WATCH IT. Remembered it just before the tank overflowed at the toilet. It was a close call. I don’t walk away anymore while rinsing the tank.

This isn't exactly a forgotten item story, but it is pretty funny in retrospect. Years ago we stopped to fuel up at a station in Arkansas. I dashed into the trailer to use the toilet. Hubby thought I'd gone inside for that purpose. When the gas pump didn't work, he proceeded to move truck/trailer to a working pump... with me sitting on the toilet in the trailer! That was one of the more interesting rides I've ever had.

The same story of wife going to the trailer toilet while at the diesel pump. I assumed she went inside so I pulled the trailer away from pumps, CRUNCH. The steps were down so they were all bent and destroyed. We were in Michigan so drove to Lippert near Elkhart for a new set the next day. And yes, the other "bent step " story is mine too.

I love these responses ...

The bent steps stories reminded me of another "I forgot something." Our 2nd travel trailer (a Keystone Springdale). Took the camper on the road for a trip. Drove over 2 hours all the way round I-465 (Indianapolis) and came out the other side. The roads around Indianapolis are awful bumpy. Wife and I had to stop already for a potty break. Pulled into a gas station to discover I forgot to fold up the door steps when we left. These were not Moride steps, they were the fold up under the door type. Still, they stuck out quite a way and all that traffic... nothing hit them, nor did I hit anything.

Another Duh! moment! I was lucky!

My story is the result of letting traffic impact my decision making. We had pulled into a camp ground in Oregon for the first time. However when I signed in I had pulled in backward to the flow of traffic to get to my camp spot. The park guard advised me to just pull onto the road and turn back around the right direction into the camp ground. I blindly followed his advise pulled onto the road making a tight turn. With on coming traffic I made the turn tighter and faster until I heard the fifth wheel contact my back window shattering the glass and bending the frame. Lesson learned: know and follow your on limits!
