The New 3850FL & Boot size??

Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone has noticed the boot size on the 3850FL - it seems very small...looking at the 3900FB and the 3850FL the boot size is considerably smaller...

Anybody see this as well - any idea's as to why would be appreciated

Believe the front storage is smaller because construction requirements associated with the two front slides in the living room configuration

Sorry, yes front storage is what we mean - we call it a boot - but thank you for the reply about the 2 slides for the lounges - perhaps that is why...

I see, and I have also always referred to it as the basement. On the 3750 and I assume the 3850, the living room area is actually smaller in length than on other models since the bathroom and bedroom area are now at the rear of the rig, and the kitchen dining areas are pushed forward, leaving less room for the basement. The 3750 has another storage area that is beneath the bed on the offside. I assume the 3850 has the same area. The storage space is deceiving in that we were able to transfer everything from our 3400 basement area to these two storage areas on the 3750 with no loss of room. The combined area may be smaller that the larger basements on the drop-frame models now, but it was comparable to our previous 2007 3400 model.

I would certainly agree with Hook, we had difficulty getting everything transferred from our 32' SunnyBrook to our 3750FL, I'm not sure what we would have done if we had the washer/dryer installed. We had a tech build a box around the heating duct in the "basement'. We have adjusted our packing and with the satellite dish now up on the roof we will have a bit more room.

Did anyone else notice their location? I recall a recent post where someone took a picture of a Monty parked in Japan somewhere and queried that this could be the farthest location from the Montana plant. Would Australia be farther? I don't know but with Japan being pretty much straight across the Pacific and Australia actually being much farther south, I wonder if theirs would be even farther.

Anyway, back to the topic, I always thought a boot was at the rear of a vehicle and the bonnet in the front with the engine, but in a Monty we call the area a basement because it's under the main living area like in a stickhouse. I guess the boot was be the "trunk" and like the original VW bug the boot was in front and the bonnet in back?

Okay, that's almost settled. I would guess that Monty sizes and floorplans will dictate what's left over for storage. It's not like you can fill them up since weight is the concern for any trailer (or caravan as they say "down under"; do they say the "States" are "up over"?) Isn't there also the slight chance that if the boot were smaller, this might mean there's more cabinet or storage inside the rig? I guess only a tape measure and a bunch of mathematics will confirm this. I'd never believe any marketing brochure and I don't think they include this measurement.

To Gary and Sheree (TheScotts). Welcome to the MOC. If you purchase the BigSky can we expect you at any of the MOC rallies, just curious?

The DW and I agreed that the storage on the 3750 is adequate for us. We know that if we have too much storage means we will collect too much junk to haul around. After having the pocket yacht, (boat)we learned to pack and have what is important and what isn't. More room means more junk imho.

Well we guess that is sorted...'it's smaller' but the floor plan evidently dictates the size - it will have to do us as this is the floor plan we want.

We had no problem fitting all of our "stuff" from our old to our new 3750FL. The inside had twice the storage. We still have not used the top of our kitchen cupboards and the two cupboards above the frig. Lots of room. Now with the new TV, we have even more room. We would assume that the new 3750 and 3850 has the same basement storage area.

Same here, basement storage is fine. I have 2 zero gravity recliners, two regular lawn chairs, two child lawn chairs, two folding side tables, a 10'X10' pop up canopy, two sat LNB's, a camp chef two burner propane stove, a tool box, dog carpets, my granddaughters electric scooter and charger, and I almost forgot the dogs water bowl. There is still room if I would build higher shelf to utilize some of the upper space. Don't forget the large storage in the rear under the bed. All my electric cords, water hoses, drying rack, more tools, mountain pie makers, hot dog forks, and plenty of kids toys reside in there. Add the two together and there is more than enough.
Don't worry about that aspect of your decision.

It is all about how you start this lifestyle. If it's your first rig you'll be fine. If, like Joyce and I, you are used to more storage and you have separate hobbies that both take a lot of space then it might be an issue.
