Suburban water heater...electric/gas...has always made very hot water...this evening the water was warm at best...manual doesnt show me much...yes the electrical element and the gas burner are functioning...is there a check valve or some other device that could be clogged or stuck? any idea's will be greatly appreciated to help me dive in to this repair...

Check your water heater bypass valve in the convenience center.
Also make sure your outside shower valves are both closed.

Sounds like the hot water check valve is acting up. Do a Search on keywordst such as hot water check valve. The valve is on the back of the WH and sometimes access to it can be a PIA.

thanx fella's...yes i utubed before posting this thread and it was pointing to the check valve,,,but i trust the input from daryles, dutch, carl and a few others a heck of a lot more,,,aint steered me wrong yet as i overprocess my thoughts...
the access on the 2021 3121rl was nice,,panel under pantry gave great access...drained heater and removed check valve,,,it was plugged with what appears to be maybe teflon tape from the anode rod insertion..i wrap 4 wraps usually..i have been told there is a liner in some of the tanks,,and i hope it isnt liner failure..not sure how to tell...but i am back to hot water again and ready to do the checklist for trip to wild and wacky wi in a week or so.,..thanx again

Also make sure the valves on the inside shower are closed not just at the shutoff on the shower wand

When wrapping the teflon tape, you only need to wrap about 3 turns.
The most important thing is when wrapping the fitting, do not put any tape on the 1st thread and looking at the end of the fitting, only wrap it in a clockwise direction
