I have a Montana 3400rl fifth wheel, the window or slide out seal has failed and the floor underneath the window needs replaced, my question is what is the procedure for the floor replacement
I know this doesn't answer your question, but I don't know of but maybe one on the MOC that has replaced all or part of the slide floor on their own. This would be one booger of a job to get it right. Perhaps an entire new floor screwed to the top of the old one???? You'd only loose say 3/4". Depends on how long you plan on keeping your fiver.
I agree with Dieselguy, In all the years I use to repair mobil homes and rv's we use to cut the bad floor out and scab in new 2x's to the joist. Replace the bad wood. BUT I think your slide floor is built different and the best choice is over lay. Glue and screw.
Come on guys, watch the video. It's not that hard of a job. Doing it myself saved us a couple of thousand dollars and it's as good as new. Actually it's better than new as I used real waterproof plywood.
Alwims ... I did watch the video ... pretty slick for 3 guys that have done the job a bunch of times with all the right equipment. I haven't said it can't be done ... just that it would be a booger of a job even with the video.
We had the slide floor replaced last fall. They had to pull the slide out and laid it down on the wall and took the old floor off and got two sheets of plywood and laminated them together. They could not get a piece the right length so the had to make the floor the right length.
If you are going to ovderlay the old flooring with new, be careful off the crew lengths. If you use to long of a screw to screw down the panels, they will tear up the carpeting and or lino flooring when you slide in. Just a thought.
