Does anyone know who makes the day/night shades for our Monty? A line in our rear window shade snapped. The shade tilted and the day shade slid part way out of it's holder. It will not slide back in without tearing fabric. I'd like to contact the manufacture to either repair or replace the largest shade in the rig!

There is some threads on this forum about restringing and repairing the shades yourself. I have repaired the large shade in the rear because the end caps came out and I didn't replace them before the same thing happened to me. It was pretty straight forward after I got out of "panic" mode.
 
there is also a couple on this site that will do your repairs. They might come on and help you.Can't remember their name of course...
 
Members Suzanne & Brad Abernathy-Warner (Subra1228) repair shades if you don't want to tackle the problem. I know they just did one for Wayne and Carolyn Matthews. PM or email them for information. There are a number of suppliers (www.dirtyblindman.com) who provide materials and instruction should you wish to give it a try yourself.

Yes, if you'd like us to restring your shade, we'd be happy to (although we can't repair the fabric if it's torn). Mine did the same thing took them down and bought a light blocking roman shade easy to mount and works a whole lot easier. Even blocks out light better it has a plastic chain to roll it up and down only cost $76 with shipping. I will never mess with a day night shade again.
 
We had 3 day/night shades string break all within about a month. We decided no more of them and went with another brand and quickly realized that we really enjoyed the day/night shades more. We liked the day portion a lot. So we bought a kit and did the repair ourselves. After the first one it was a snap and had all 3 of them repaired in an afternoon on the picnic table in the CG. And yes one of them was the huge back window one. So the new shades sit in storage and figure a loss of about $400.00.

I'm learning that the tension has a lot to do with breakage of the string. I just lost two more and must learn how to adjust the string so that is it firm but NOT tight. There is more thinking than I'd like to ensure that the string is not too tight.

Then I'm now reading that when traveling on the road the day/night blinds must be up and I've always kept mine down. I prefer keeping them down so that the interior is kept private even though my Monty has tinted windows, but this is not good for them? Ugh, what's an RVer to do?

I used the dirtyblindman web site to fix my last shade. Maybe this time I'll use Subra1228's recommendation.
 
We restrung a couple of ours. Just be patient as you take it apart and see where the new strings go. It's not hard, once you catch on, but it can be a daunting task the first time.
 
I believe the trick is as far as the amount of tension on the strings are this. Just enough tension on them to barely hold them up and travel with them down. Since we have done this we have had no problems at all. And it's a lot easier to put the shades up and down while in use.

I just finished one for the first time....wasn't actually as bad as I figured it was going to be. Now one more to fix and then loosen the rest of them a little!
