I just got new tires including a new spare don't trust that cable that secures the tire . Looking for a way to better secure it,has anyone had any concerns and another way to secure the tire?

Lots of members have used ratchet straps or chains to secure the tire to the RV and not trusting the cheap OEM system. I though I would find lots of Posts on this but I was only able to find this one.

WHEN, the plastic travel block fails (holds the cable that lifts the tire).
You can order a replacement here.

Personally, I would send the broken one to this guy and have him 3D print a METAL one.

When ours broke I replaced it with this, which is almost worthless.

BAL 28218 Hide-A-Spare Tire Storage - I-Beam Underslung Mount (for trailers with enclosed underbelly)

I had a 2010 3000RK and never had a problem with the spare tire holder. Sold the trailer in August 2025. Maybe they were made of better material and only took the spare down a couple of times.

We also installed the BAL underslung. It worked ok, we had heavy Goodyear g114s on proper alloy rims, and also used rachet straps to hold everything together. It was awkward to get the spare down and out, but I felt much relieved having that instead of the cable winch.
