We dropped our beloved 2007 Montana 3000RK at a dealership yesterday as part of a trade in on a new rig. Unfortunately, it will not be a montana. Couldn't find one that we could tow that met our needs (really liked the HC 381TB but hitch weight was too high for our TV).

We will still check in from time to time as the folks here are great.

Congrats on your new camper. We traded our Keystone Outback travel trailer for our current MHC more than 4 years ago. I used the Outbackers.com forum a lot when we had the Outback. When we got the Montana, I stopped using that forum and drifted more over to the Keystone and Montana forums sponsored by Life Pro. But, I do occasionally go back and catch up on that forum. Pretty much the same discussions occur over there on that forum as they do here. So, don't disappear completely. We all have too much in common.

We have a 2007 3500RL that we are looking at parting with this year.
Medical issues with my wife has caused us to make new traveling adjustments.
Everything works and has new axles and tires recently installed and a lot of interior upgrades.
We are located in Monterey, California area.

We too have traded in our 2015 Montana in for a new Alpine fifth wheel. Our Montana got rearended by some young people that feel asleep at one in the afternoon. At one point I had sworn I would not buy another Keystone product because of the problems that we had had with our Montana and the way Keystone treated us. I should have listened to myself, but we didn't and have had even more problems with the new fiver. We are squared away for now and hope we will be lucky from here on out. I have learned alot being a member here and thank everyone for their input. We will continue to monitor the Forum for the good and useful information. Thank you again.

I had the same problem. I wanted a new 285rld Montana Mountaineer no longer made. I don’t know why Montana is making such large rigs. There is a market for the smaller rigs. We travel a lot a national parks in like the smaller size. What an arctic fox.

Lots of bells and whistles: 6 pt auto level, LCI One Connect to phone app for lights, slides, awnings, Leveling system, lights, ect. After our ordeal with the graphics on our Montana we wanted full body paint but had to settle for 9yr Ceramic Coating. Has on demand hot water, DC fridge, 370W solar, 2000W inverter, outside kitchen.....
Also has what we needed most - 2 separate bedrooms. I have restless leg syndrome and use a CPAP and Lisa, after years of me being at sea, cannot sleep without the tv on to hide the noises in the night. I cannot sleep with the TV as I wake every 10-15 minutes when the volume jumps up for commercials..... At least with the bunk room I can open up the bed and leave it open instead of breaking down the living room sleeper bed every night like I did in the Monty.

Nice looking rig there. Just curious, how's that on-demand water heater working out. Some folks love them, some folks hate them after a while. What your opinion based on your experience so far?

On demand hot water

Hey Dutchman,
Thanks for the kind words. We are happy with it.
WRT the on demand I am mixed. guess it depends on how I am using it. Here are the

LIKES:
1. probably uses less gas than a tanked heater running on gas since it only heats the water when you need it vice trying to keep the tanked water hot all the time.
2. I can have hot water available quickly during rest area stops, or immediately upon arrival at a site without having to heat the water in the tank first.
3. no more anode to use up/replace/ keep track of while winterized.

DISLIKES:
1. does not have the ability to run on electric so if I am at a "campground" with W/E I can not heat my water using the CG electricity.
2. if DRY Camping it wates alot of water before you get hot water to the faucet. A work around is to use a bucket/pot to collect the water instead of sending it to the holding tank and use that water elsewhere in the rig (flush toilet with it, fill dog water dish, use for cooking pasta, etc.)
3. Lack of flexibility in power sources/single point of failure. I have installed MOPEKA propane tank monitors to give me better awareness of my onboard propane levels. That said, in 46 days of camping (minimal use of heater but did use stove and oven - fridge is DC only) (3 days dry camp at a HIPCAMP) we used up 90% of a 30gal tank. Last weekend we camped for 4 days and it was cold and went through 1/2 a tank on that trip alone.
4. bit more complicated to winterize (I will know better after this weekend's final campout) If you do it wrong you will rupture the internal mixing bowl. Definitely need to blow the system out and it is okay and probably prudent to fill the water heater with anti-freeze.

Bottom line - I dont hate it but it does not make my greatest thing since sliced bread list either.
