I installed a Carmtek RV Keyless handle and lock four years ago. The Carmtek unit is almost identical to the RV Lock v4. For the last year or so, my door has been popping open while driving. Previously, I did not usually lock the door while driving. At first I thought the door frame was flexing enough for the door to pop open. So, I started locking the dead bolt, but that did not cure the problem. After the door popped open, I checked the deadbolt and found it retracted. This should not happen unless the combination is entered, the key is used or the remote button is pushed. Several months ago, I removed the remote from my pocket; just in case. The door popped open twice on me today after I had locked both the deadbolt and the handle. When I checked it, the deadbolt was retracted.

I’m about ready to toss this one and buy the RV Lock v4, but first I wanted check to see if anyone else has experienced a problem like this or has any ideas.

Scott I have the RV lock, I’ve had it for at least 6 years and never had a problem like described. I just lock it from key pad when we travel.

We have RV Lock. After two years it malfunctioned. RV Lock sent us a replacement. I only paid a few $ for shipping.

We've had our RV Lock for almost 3 years now. Once and a while I have had the door pop open when I unlock the deadbolt. I am not sure what caused it but otherwise it has worked fine.

Carmtek is sending me a new PCB to see if that helps. Their customer support is good.

The electronic part operates the dead bolt, correct?

I don't understand why the door would pop open even if the dead bolt was retracted. Still the other latch there correct?

Not doubting anyone here, just trying to get my head around why that would happen. I have never experienced anything like this on my rig.

At first I suspected the door frame was flexing enough to allow the door to pop open. I still think that, but since I can't do anything about that so I'm hoping to find a different issue.

I had a similar issue. Mine was due to folding the stairs back up into the rv onto a floor mat instead onto the bare floor. The extra bit of pressure on the door from the staircase resting on a mat in the doorway was all it took to push door open. This was partially also due to the metal deadbolt “latch frame” having too much inset into the door jam - i.e., not providing enough depth for the deadbolt to seat properly. Stowing away the floor mat fixed the problem by itself though.

Thanks, I'll try that. However, if that was happening, I think the dead bolt would still be extended. Nothing I can think of explains why the deadbolt is retracted. When I'm back home and get it, I'll install the new PCB and give it one more chance. It will take another trip, probably six months or more before I know anything.
