RV AC Cycling On and Off

One of my AC units has started cycling on and off. I think that is an indicator of low freon. Yes/ No? Other possible causes?

Coils freezing over can cause this. Are you running the fan on High?

Yes, fan on high. Still investigating. Turned unit off and checked air temp from other( Front) unit 52⁰(80⁰outside). Turned that unit off and turned the other (rear)one back on. Air temp 46⁰. Still cycling. Dirty outside (evaporator) coil?

Dirty coil is a good possibility or the area where the freeze sensor is positioned is actually freezing and shutting the unit off.

I'll go with a dirty coil for now. The fact that this just started suggests to me that it's not the freeze sensor.

IIRC, there was a problem with the freeze sensors falling out of the fins and laying inside the condenser. You might take the cover off and check that. Also make sure the holes that let the condensation drain are not clogged.

Buy some coil cleaner from Ace Hardware or a reliable RV supply store. It comes in a spray can it’s easy to apply, there are videos on YouTube. It will solve 90% of problems like this.

I clean mine regularly. Having said that I have replaced both of my Dometic thermostats. Both were making the unit short cycle. There are lots of options out there. I installed an easy touch and it does great. And solve the problem.

Replaced both of my OEM Dometic static touch thermostats...pricey but worth it.
...and I have cleaned my coils, plus added drain holes per that bulletin from a few years ago.
