Hello everyone (and Carl), I’ve got a 2010 Montana 3400RL and I’m looking into roof maintenance before more of the heavy rains in Central Florida hit. Some folks here recommended a 5-gallon bucket of Kleer Coat acrylic paint to protect against leaks. They said it costs around $150, but I can’t find it at Lowe’s, Home Depot, or any RV stores.

Camping World suggested using a silicone sealant around the edges first and that I might only need a gallon of roof coating for my fifth wheel, but I’m not sure if that’s enough given the size.

I’m on a budget and considering sharing the 5 gallons with a neighbor who has a much smaller RV and a minor leak. What’s the best cost-effective method you all recommend for sealing and protecting the roof? Any specific products or techniques that have worked well for you?

Thank You!

Dicor self leveling lap sealant for any place on top of the roof. You can get the same in a Non-self leveling for the edges.

I would address all leaks before coating the membrane. You might consider using eternabond tape (or similar micro seal flashing tape) over all of the caulk. Don’t rely on the coating to stop a problem.

I wouldn’t apply any silicone before applying anything else, could cause problems with anything else ever adhering to the old surface.

We have a 2013 3100RL and used Dicor self-leveling sealant on any questionable seams. We then used Roof Magic, a non-silicone coating, first cleaning the roof with their recommended cleaner. It looks brand new. I will be putting a second coat on in the near future. Was very happy with the Roof Magic product.

I just redid all my roof seals for front and end cap, vents, etc.. Used RV roof tape, Dicor self-leveling and non-leveling sealant. Scraped off the old sealant, applied tape and then dicor on the seams and edges. Not as easy as it looked on YouTube and took about 16th in total but worth it!
