We are having Camping World install a Windgard Roadtrip dome style antenna for our Direct TV Thursday. Does anyone have this style? We were looking for something that we would not have to constantly adjust while on trips. We have also removed our bedroom TV so we only want reception to the basement and living area, so my other question is where would be the best place on the roof for them to mount it.

We got the traveller instead, as recommended by exav8tr, and have been well pleased. If I remember correctly, and it may have changed, the dome doesn't receive HD. We love it as long as we're not in heavy trees.

Wineguard Traveler here as well, just installed a new LNB and updated the two receivers to the new LNB's. If you are camped in treed campgrounds sometimes you won't be able to get a signal, choose the best site with some opening to the south and you might be successful.
The dealer contacted Keystone about where to mount mine, you don't want it to be the highest thing on the roof, mine is between the kitchen vent and the rear AC.

I've had the roof mounted dome type and a carryout on previous rigs, and now have the travlr on the new 3800. Concur with everyone's comments on the travlr, works great. Problem with dome type and carryout (also a dome) is that when it got wet and or snow, have to wipe off constantly to avoid distorting signal. Was really a hassle with the roof mounted dome as only choice was to crawl up & down the ladder to dry off.
Our rating would be travlr, then roof mounted dome, finally carryout.

I added the Trav'ler for Direct TV to our rig a few weeks ago and really love it! The dome styles do not pick up HD programing for Direct TV. I mounted mine between the kitchen vent and the tank vents. This allowed me to run the wires down between the vents to the basement. Good luck and enjoy your new addition.

Thanks for input. We are camped just a few miles from the Camping World that is scheduled to do the work (Madison WI) Thursday morning. Went in yesterday and switched the work order from the dome to the traveler. They are shipping one in from another store for our install. Also feel better after talking with one of the older techs about the install.

The roof mounts do nor get HD on the directv. We have HD so I want to be able to get it so no roof mount for us. we also note that the majority of folks who have roof mounts also carry around a tripod mount.. Why have two. When and if Ditecttv is able to receive HD via a dome...we will reconsider.

I wish Direct had a simpler system. I find setting up the tripod dish and aiming it a little difficult. But I do not have a very good tripod. I have been thinking about switching to Dish in the RV an getting one of the small portable automatic units for it like the Tailgater. Any comments?

We love our Trav'ler also!

We loved our DirecTV Winegard Trav'ler so much, we moved it from our old 2006 Outback to our new 2013 Monte last month. To coin a phrase, "We won't leave home without it!"

Rich, the Traveler Roof mount is a H.D. unit, automatic as well.
It is not a dome, but works good, wind doesn't mess with it.

You are correct OZZ My bad. Some of the roof mounts do receive directv HD. We see so many folk carrying around a tripod anyhow a tripod anyhow because of the times they can not get a signal with the roof mount. The price for the trav'ler is way over our budget. The remote domes do not receive Directv HD .When they do we might have one.
