Roadmaster Comfort Ride Leaf Spring Suspension Kit w/ Shocks

I came here looking for info on the new Curt Touring Coil Suspension (TCS) System. Looks pretty amazing. Between the Comfort Ride and IS. Has springs and shocks. Was looking at Comfort Ride, but now looking at TCS. Those interested may want to look at that, because you can upgrade to disc too.

Most folks that have problems with spring hanger welds breaking is simply due to the way the RV is handled...

If you back into spots with a hard angle or make a turn tightly instead of swinging out a bit it puts a great deal of side load stress on the hangers and they WILL eventually bend and the welds will fail.

Setting up your back in procedure allows you to make the backing in angle at less than 45 degrees ( which significantly ) lessons the side load on those hangers , tires, wet bolts, and center link equalizers

We just finished up our 13th season .. original spring hangers, wet bolts... None of the hangers are bent and no welds are compromised.

I have the Dexter 7K axles and Dexter EZ Flex center link.. I also run 14 ply G rated Sailuns inflated to 95 psi

My fifth wheel rides smoothly and nothing is ever out of place inside when we arrive at a destination..

YMMV

@Cbrandt79 & @20TwoAdv: It's been a year since your upgrades. Thoughts for those looking at the Roadmaster Comfort Ride upgrade? After a year, do you feel the upgrade was worth it, esp. if you paid for the install?

Czf6x1 - I recently had the Roadmaster Comfort Ride + slipper springs installed on my rig. I have not towed the rig yet. This is how my analysis went…

My OEM drum brakes were in decent shape. Would love to have disc brakes but the money tree won’t support that now. My 7k axles are good to go with the weight of my rig…no need to upgrade now.

Based on reviews in this forum - Morryde IS is probably the best system out there…but I would have to schedule an appointment in Elkhart for a year from now. With DW’s current cancer treatment, that won’t work. The cost…not exactly sure but I think it is somewhere between $7k and $10k…that is a deal killer…and I forgot to add in the cost of a trip to Elkhart from Austin.

My OEM springs were flat and I was living on borrowed time for the past 2 years. I was also concerned about spring hangers, wet bolts etc etc…I have read all the stories here in this forum. I was planning to take the rig to a truck alignment shop 70 miles away, drop it off to get new springs, L-brackets to reinforce the spring hangers, new bushings, wet bolts and new equalizers. I considered trying to do this myself with YouTube university, but I don’t have the tools and jacks. I was dreading the whole affair and not sure the money savings justified the risk and the pain I would feel in my 71 yr old arthritic body. The truck shop would not give me a quote over the phone, they wanted to see the rig. My own guess was $3k to $3500…but it was going to be a PIA hauling the rig to Waco and back.

In mid-April I saw a video from so YouTubers we follow where they got the Roadmaster system installed, and the installers COME TO YOU to do the install. I did some research on cost and it was going to be $3k to $3500. My decision was easy…given our current budget and situation with traveling, it was a no brainer!

We have never experienced troubles with the contents of the rig being jarred and broken during travel…so the Roadmaster system will be an improvement regardless. I also got 2 Morryde XFactor braces installed to ease my fears of overstressing the hangers...good insurance IMHO. With the heavy duty slipper springs, I have little to no annual maintenance required, and I have a lifetime warranty…music to my ears.

In an earlier post to this thread - you mentioned Curt Touring Coil Suspension. I had never heard of it, so I googled the cost range and it came up at $10k. I’m sure it is a great system.

Thanks for the detailed info! I am going to call PTB today to see what the cost would be. I thought "Performance Trailer Braking" sounded familiar. I looked at the NAFR thread and saw that "Performance Braking" will be at the rally. I assume that is a different company. I'll ask if they will be at the rally.

I hope DW gets better soon.

The cost for me (Roadmaster stuff + 2 Morryde XFactor braces) $2750.56…paid online to order the parts.

Installation was $1150…paid when she finished the job. (No discount or extra charge for me hanging around asking questions all day!)
She adds $40 if you use a credit card for installation.

IIRC, if I had purchased the gear from etrailer, it was going to be ~$2300.
Saving $1500 to do this myself was not worth the risk and pain.

We just had the Curt Coil Spring system installed. With disc brakes and rerouting of the propane line it came to 7623.75. It would have been about 6k without the brakes and the propane line. I'm pretty sure I'll save that in repair costs to the rig. We also had the Roadmaster system on our previous rig and loved it.

Quick update: We decided to go with the Roadmaster Comfort Ride/disk/X-Factor upgrade, keeping the 7k axles. They come *tomorrow* for the install. $5631 parts + $2450 labor = $8081. At that point, IS would "only" be ~2k more, but we'll use that for our fridge upgrade (or solar or generator or ...)

After our first trip with the new Roadmaster COMFORT Ride system, I can’t say that I noticed a substantial difference on rough roads…but there is a section of road on US Hwy 290 between Elgin TX and Bastrop TX that is worse than the permafrost heave on the Alaskan highway…humps and moguls - it’s BAD! I took COMFORT as we were being thrashed around that I had a new, strong system that laughed at the road humps. Last year on that same stretch of road I was always looking ahead planning where I would pull over as soon as I heard the POP of a broken hanger or spring.

Just returned from another trip after the Roadmaster upgrade. It was the first after also adding the Reese Goosebox and disc brakes. Still very happy with it. All upgrades added together it’s a little difficult to pinpoint which upgrade is the most beneficial. The items on the trailer seem much more stable. Coffee maker stays where it is. No broken mounts inside. There is greatly reduced chucking and bouncing. Even if we had paid for the installs, I’d still say it worth it.

Roadmaster Comfort Ride and DeeMaxx disk brakes installed yesterday. What a difference in stopping distance! Although we just went on a test drive and haven't travelled yet, I can see why installer Wes said that any bumps dissipate faster. During the drive, we went over a bridge transition. Previously, the trailer would chuck repeatedly. Now? Slight bump, then it just...went away. Very pleased so far! Can't wait to take it on the road to show the DW!

Shout out to Wes Parks @ PTB! Nice guy, answered all my Qs. We had a pleasant chat (for 11+ hours).

You’ll be very happy with the upgrades. They probably told you about retorquing the ubolts, but if not I suggest you check them after 50 miles or so. We checked ours after about 75, and all ubolts need to be tightened. They weren’t bad, but needed to re-torque them all. Wheels to. Enjoy!

Hello fellow Montana owners and fans

I am considering upgrading the suspension on our 2021 Montana 3120rl legacy with the roadmaster comfort ride. Please let me know your thoughts if you have done this. I have had 3 issues with the hangers since buying our rig in Oct 2020 new.

Thanks!!!
Love them I put them on 2 years ago with no issues
