Roadmaster Comfort Ride Leaf Spring Suspension Kit w/ Shocks

This is something that I would like to do myself, but we are not sure if we are going to keep our rig.

I’m late to this thread, but it caught my attention.

We’ve got the same rig as you: 2021 3021RL.

The ride has been a constant issue since we bought it 11 months ago. We see lots of minor issues like the paper towels unspooled all over the place, but I had to pay to replace the thermostat and the wiring because the ground wire ran away from home. And now I need to replace most of the USB wall outlets because they’ve started to give out.

We’re chasing a lot of phantoms and I attribute most of them to the rough ride.

I’ll be interested to see if your suspension upgrades fix your issues.
I will post updates once installed.

We had another incident yesterday with an item mistakenly left on the counter. My big 14-dose pill minder fell off the counter and wedged beneath the slide and dispensed about half the pills in the process. I had to use a lever to partially lift the slide to get it out. Things got colorful after the slide ground the leftover pills to dust.

I highly recommend the roadmaster upgrsdd. But, if you are having hanger issues, IMO, you should get those rewelded and/or reinforced before doing the upgrade. Most any certified welder can add some bracing to strengthen the hangers. There are many photos online of hanger reinforcement. Just do not add steel that interferes with the roadmaster install.

Ours is not that model. It’s a ‘24 3531re. The tv is on a telelevator in the rear and a residential fridge in a slide about midway in the trailer. In three trips we had to replace the rear tv twice because it broke off the mounting bracket. The fridge mounts pulled away from the wall. Everything that was not fastened down was moving or coming off the counters and closets were a mess. We’ve been rv’ing for about 15 years…we know how to pack and travel. After the Roadmaster and shocks, we have now had two pulls with no issue, maybe 200 miles or so. I’ll be surprised if it would not work for your unit also.

Hello fellow Montana owners and fans

I am considering upgrading the suspension on our 2021 Montana 3120rl legacy with the roadmaster comfort ride. Please let me know your thoughts if you have done this. I have had 3 issues with the hangers since buying our rig in Oct 2020 new.

Thanks!!!
I installed the Roadmaster slipper springs and shocks myself. I also installed a air ride pin box. I would do both on my next trailer for sure. A game changer combination.

Hopefully it will be an improvement . IMO it is not worth the time nor money . IMO you want to smooth the ride , the pin box , and IS suspension as said before or the MorRyde pin box . Thats my experience.

The other addition was a anti-sway bar to the truck. I have done it on my last 3 trucks. It makes towing my palatible in wind and what not. My truck is a 3500hd

I've got the same trailer as you. I put the slipper springs with shock and I added the Moryde cross braces. I also switched out my pin box to the GenY goose box. I can tell you its a much smoother ride. We hauled it to Florida from Chicago and most stuff in the trailer was where it was when we left. I believe with the improvements it will keep the trailer from destroying itself while being towed. I have no regrets.
Good to hear! We just completed the install of a Reese Goosebox to go along with the slipper springs, shocks and braces. Hopefully we’ll have the same smoother ride experience.

Great, don't forget to post up some pictures I have been thinking about doing the installation myself.

Just a word of caution. We had disc brakes put on our old rig and Morryde placed the lines over the suspension. One good bounce and we cracked a fitting and lost brakes. The next year we had the slipper spring system put on and two years later we hit a good bump and the rubber brake line that was placed above the suspension was cut. Once again no brakes. We now have 8k axles on a new 3901 with drum brakes. The brake pads on the 8ks are almost twice the width of the 7k axles. And now my question is, can you put IS on wheels with drum brakes?

As far as I know the wheel ends on I.S. can use either disc or electric, same as a regular axle. In fact in the service manual for I.S., the steps outlining the shear spring replacement call out cutting and reattaching the brake wiring. There is not even a mention of disc brakes.

Thank you for the info. The drum brake pads are so large I'm not sure I want to put discs back on.

There is no comparison, most are skeptical of the difference between drum , and disc brakes . Night , and day difference . Yes the drum got big pads , but no where near the stopping ability of disc brakes.

I certainly was skeptical, but now wouldn’t have a fifth wheel without disc brakes .

Couldn't agree more, I will never go back to drums. Had a panic stop on the highway (lady was chasing a dog). Got everything stopped without incident.

Disc brakes are probably my next upgrade. The Roadmaster suspension was a definite improvement with no regrets, but stopping.... need some work there. That is probably going to be the next upgrade in the spring.
