Ran Out Of Stored Water-My Solution

We are still at North American Young Riders. We had some unexpected visitors and we ran out of stored water while boon docking. I guess we could of packed it all up and moved to a hose to fill up, but instead we went to Sams and bought 30 1 gallon bottles of distilled water. I think we were pretty creative.......

Any one else ever had to do this or something similiar???

We always carry a few store bought bottled water jugs (2-1/2 gallon size) with us in the Montana as we don't use water from the tanks for drinking. I guess we could refill them at the water spigot if needed.

We have friends who carry a 5 gallon size (refillable) water jug and they will drive over to the water spigot (so they don't have to carry it back full) to fill up and bring back to dump into their RV with.

Your 30 1-gallon jugs win the prize I think!

I use a 60 gallon poly tank from Tractor Supply and a 12 volt bilge pump from Wal-Mart.. were never out of water.

We were in a primitive camp at Drummand Island MI for a month earlier this summer. We bought a long hose at a discount tool company and shared with other campers to string out as much as 250 feet for refills. Turns out the hose came in handy as we could also use it to feed water to the fish cleaning table near the shore.

I'm with Gruffy...if we know we're heading into dry country, we pack the 55gal blue tank with the 12V pump!

We always carry a full blue tank when boondocking, you never know when you might need the extra water and not have a place to get it easily.

Good idea. We take frozen water in gallon jugs if we know we are going to be boondocking for several days in hot weather. Set a few in the garden tub with a blanket over them. for ice water on day one.Then have several in the deep freeze (Ice box when boon docking) to keep extra stuff cool and ice water for the duration. Etc.

I used to have a collapsing five gallon jug for water storage. When empty it folded up into a small package, easy to store. I never used it so don't know how cumbersome it was when full. It was made of some heavy gauge vinyl or similar material. I would think it would be easier to pour the smaller bottles into the tank, though.

"I stayed in Smokey Mountains N.P. last fall, and there wasn't any water connections at the sites. There was however available (potable) water near the restrooms. Since I was staying there several days and was too lazy to pull the trailer around there and fill'er up... the water would have to come to me. So. I place a large clean piece of heavy mil plastic in the bed of my truck, to use as a large reservior. I pulled up to the hose bib, used my water hose to fill up the back of the truck, and eased back over to my trailer, carefully so as not to spill a drop. Then I connected my water hose to the trailer and for a pump, I used a high volume (el cheapo) bilge pump I bought for the boat store. I fixed a hose thread connector onto the bilge pump and attached the water hose and dropped it in the bed of the truck. Works great !!!
