Purchasing and setting up with Starlink

I wonder what are you supposed to do with these dishes in high winds? Whatever mount is used - will they make it thru (say) big thunder storm with 45 mph winds, small hail and driving rain ? Or should you remove the dish. One day last week we were expecting “spotty” severe storms with 65 mph winds overnight (they did not materialize at our place). I brought the dish in the house. Looking at the photo below - nothing but the thumb screw (circled in red) holds it in the mount. What about when it is mounted to the top of a flagpole off the RV ladder?

Mike, we have ours, when home, on a 6’ long piece of schedule 30, 2 1/2” diameter pvc which is tie wrapped to one of the corner posts of our deck. We are essentially just down the road from you. We are literally half way around the world for another 3 or 4 weeks. I should have thought to bring ours inside before we left. Duh!

Depending upon the mount, you may be OK. There are mounts that are used for in motion up to 100 mph, so 45 mph winds are not a problem if the mount is good. As far as hail, I might take it down though.

Only problem with taking mine down now is that we are presently visiting Australia, Tasmania and New Zealand for a few more weeks. Fortunately one of our neighbors in the rv park we live in keeps a good eye on our things while we are out of town or country. I have asked him to watch the weather for us!

Starlink has been around for several years now. Lots of people mounted these dishes up on the roof of their homes and let them sit through rain, sleet, snow, hail and boiling sunshine. They never touch them again. Same as people have done for decades with satellite TV.

We recently purchased our first Starlink system. (Roam Gen 3) As long as I have it securely mounted, I have zero intentions of taking it inside during bad weather.

We purchased the standard for better signal/faster speeds when the sky is obstructed. There are several videos on YouTube comparing the two. We almost always camp near or under trees. Very satisfied with our choice.

As stated in my earlier post, any roam plan using a dish prior to the mini roll out is grandfathered.

When did this happen? Ours is gen 3 standard and on the roam plan at $50 per 50GB. I had a friend just order the exact same package and service a couple weeks ago.

My understanding is with the release of the mini. Now maybe it's just the west coast or saturated areas. Sacramento is a saturated area. Residential service is unavailable currently! It's easy to confirm. Go to starlink and try to place an order for a standard with the roam package. Don't log into the site.

On another note. Bestbuy has a bkack Friday sale on the mini for 450. I paid 600. Going to get a credit tomorrow.

As a test, I went to the Starlink web site (without logging in) and placed an order for the roam plan. I was offered the choice of gen 3 standard antenna ($349) or mini ($449). Prices have come down. When I bought my gen 3 standard kit in February, it was $600.

Not sure what to tell you. It must be a west coast thing. I just tried again.
Choose standard dish and only residential plan available.

I just did the "Order Now" gig and got both the Standard (at $165) or Mini (at $50 or $165) options just down the road from you. While it was an anonymous order with no location specified (except United States), they may well have ways to determine where you are and if you are an existing customer.
