A member with a 2020 Montana 3121RL said the Arizona heat and year-round sun have left the exterior looking old and worn despite regular washing and polishing. Members agreed the sun is hard on RV finishes, decals, roof materials, and caulking, and several said polishing alone may not help if oxidation or haze has not been removed first.

Suggestions included using a gelcoat compound for visible haze, trying Poli Glo or other ceramic coatings with multiple coats and periodic renewal...

We have 2020 Montana 3121RL that we just think is the cats meow. Only problem is the outside of the unit is looking pretty bad because of our intense heat and sun all year around. I’ve washed it often, polished it many times however it continues to look old and worn out. Any suggestions as to what to try next?

There’s a ton of material on YouTube that’ll just about cover everything but I’ve used softscrub toilet bowl cleaner if the hazings not to bad. If the hazings obvious I’d go with a gelcoat compound. You can polish till the cows come home but until you remove the haze your wasting your time.

The Arizona sun can do a job on the finish of any rv. We were down in Benson, AZ for the winter for 9 years and we could definitely tell the sun did its work on the unit. I did a lot of research and finally decided to give Poli Glo a try. It is a ceramic coating and has brought new life back into our 2013 Montana. It takes some time and some elbow grease and you have to put on more than one coat but it is sure worth it. Our unit now looks like it came off the factory floor. It even brought back our graphics to show the colors they were.

WoW.

I live in the Phoenix Metro area and have a 2022 3121 RL. I am a big advocate of the ceramic coating to help mitigate the AZ sun effects on the gelcoat and decals. I am careful when I wash it to use a soft pad instead of a brush on the ceramic coating and typically update the ceramic coating every 3 years. I also store my unit under cover when we are not using it. Also, make sure you are treating the roof yearly and checking the caulking. Our sun is not the best on caulking.

I have the same vintage 3120rl. Mine is fine and I attribute that to using AeroSpace 303 UV protection.
