Hello
My family and I are planning to visit the DC area in June 2025, our plan is to take the train to the White House and need information on how to park our tow vehicle because of its size because it is considered an oversized vehicle. anyone with experience that can share? This is our first cross country trip.

For oversize and over height parking use the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center. Your truck will fit. Just pay attention as there are a few lower clearance areas. Tons of parking and it is a secure federal building so your truck will still be there and untouched after a day of sight seeing.

We stayed at the Cherry Hill Campground outside of DC. They had a shuttle to the nearby train station. Very convenient and no worry about parking.

If you are taking the train, parking at the station may accommodate or the campground my offer a shuttle service into the city or train station. What campground are you staying at?

We went to DC about five years ago. We stayed a week at Lake Fairfax Park outside Reston. It’s only about a mile or sofrom the train line. Easy in and easy out. The train will take you right to the mall.

Been a long time (1994) since we visited the DC area for a brothers wedding, and we were not in the RV then, but one thing I can tell you... the subway system is insane easy to use, cheap, clean and will get you within easy walking distance of all of the big attractions. That is how we go around for a week. The many Smithsonian museums were probably the best time we spent there, of course the monuments, Arlington Cemetery, and the White House were pretty cool too.

Wonder if anyone has had more recent experience with the DC Metro? Is it still safe and clean?

We are actually staying at the KOA in Fredericksburg, VA Washington south DC KOA. We will be visiting our nephew stationed in Maryland with the Coast Guard. Looking forward to traveling East from the West coast. Thank you for the reply

Just did DC fall of 2024; stayed Cherry Hill Campground. I was concerned about subway having never been on one; I'm from rural N of Denver. Continuous shuttle to train station, then easy on/off subway was amazingly simple. Highly recommend. Plus, I didn't want to take any chances of getting my expensive tow vehicle door dinged. (y):)
