Not all outlets work when running on 30amps.

I have an issue when I running on 30 amp power (both shore and generator). Only half of my outlets work. I'm using a 50a to 30a adaptor. I understand that I need to be conscious of how much power I draw (only one A/C and using the microwave). But as I understand it, all my outlets should have power. From what I've been about to glean on this issue, I might have a GFCI outlet tripped and it's preventing power to downstream outlets. I can only find two on the whole unit, one in the kitchen and one in the bathroom. The ones outside and in the basement are not GFCI. So my question is, on a 2018 Montana 3731FL, where are all the GFCI outlets.

I am dubious about the tripped GFCI outlet because ALL my outlets work when hooked up to 50 amp shore power. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you are not getting power to one of your 120 vac hot legs. Could be the adapter is bad or not wired correctly. The adapter should connect the one hot leg on the 30 amp connector to both hot legs on the 50 amp connector. Easy to check using a voltmeter.

Black line is the 120 vac hot wire.

Thanks for the reply Bill and Lisa. Question: Would all the outlets work on 50 amps if there was an issue with the adapter?

Yes, since the 50 amp has two separate hot legs. But since the 30 amp only has one hot leg the adapter must jumper the two together to the 50 amp side.

I agree with what Bb-Tx said.
As for the ATS when operating from the generator, I installed an ATS.
For your factory installed ATS it is likely they only wired it to run half your rig due to the output power of the generator.
This video shows how to wire the output side of the ATS to run both sides of your two 50A legs.
Before you do this you absolutely MUST know how the have your current configuration wired.

Bill, I never got back to you on this. It WAS the adapter. I replaced it and everything works now. Thank you.

Good to know you got it fixed and it wasn’t something more involved.
