Member Title: No 12V Power When Not Plugged In - Battery Disconnect Switch Solved It
A member reported that their RV lost all 12V power when not plugged into shore power, despite having a new battery. Essential systems like lights, refrigerator (on gas), and water pump were nonfunctional off-grid, but everything worked when connected to external power. After checking the breaker panel and considering a possible converter issue, experienced members quickly suggested inspecting the battery disconnect switch, commonly located in the convenience center. This switch, if left in...

Need some help. I've searched the forum and I'm not sure if I'm seeing the same type of issue. Anyway, when I'm not connected to external power nothing works off the battery - no lights, no refrigerator (even on gas), no water pump, etc. The battery is new. When I connect to external power of any kind, everything works as expected. I'm not sure where to start looking. I've checked the house breaker panel and don't see anything suspect. It's like the battery power is being shut off somewhere downstream from the battery. By the way, all of the slides work fine. Maybe it's a converter issue? Any suggestions on where to start looking would be appreciated.

First place to look is the battery disconnect switch with the big red handle in the convenience center. That disconnects the battery from the coach. The fact everything works on shore power says the converter is working.

If the battery disconnect is correct, then it may be a bad auto reset circuit breaker near the battery.

Oh my gosh!! This was the issue. I used the battery disconnect to control the water pump on/off when I winterized. I obviously forgot to turn it back off - ugh. While it's a bit embarrassing, at least it was an easy fix and a lesson for the future. My mind had jumped to the worst possible issues!! Thanks for the quick response - I was able to get things back to normal quickly.

Glad it was that simple. Embarrassing? Yeah, but most of us have done worse at one time or another.

Much worse things! I was flushing the black tank (with valve closed) and got distracted. Suddenly notice water coming out where it wasn't supposed to be! I now always stay right beside the hose when doing this. :p
