What model of the Montana did you get ?

Welcome Harold. We are also a couple years away from retirement and looking forward to snowbirding for a couple months at a time. We also want to take a few months and spend time in Alaska. We ordered a 2027 3100RL back in April and just found out this week that the dealer has now received it. By the time they get it prepped and set up it will probably be mid-July before we actually take possession of it.

We started preparing for my retirement several years before it happened. Our first decision was the type of camper we wanted. We had all of them to choose from. We settled on the fifth wheel.

The Covid years helped us prepare more than anything. While the entire country was "sheltering in place", my wife and I were both "working from home" full time. We decided to "work from home" from the camper and we found many, many state parks that remained opened with restrictions (like, only 1 water spigot and no open bathrooms). We took "it" on the road and for almost 2 years we enjoyed the solitary life of being about the only camper in almost every campground for about a 2 year run.

About the time time the Covid "thing" was letting up, I decided to retire. My wife is still working from home (she has 2 more years to go). But, that enabled up to go long-term.... and we have. I've been bouncing back and forth as a camp host between North Carolina and Louisiana for 5 years now. We return "home" to Indiana for a short while, regroup, fix something on the camper, oil changes in the truck, and .... off we go again.

One word of advise about retirement .... it takes a while to realize you do NOT have do be responsible for anything any more. You may feel a sense that you "should" be doing something, but there is nothing to do. That's OK.... in time, that "feeling" will go away as you develop and create new interests that will be totally different than your "former" life.
