Members shared solutions for reinforcing spring hangers when plumbing obstructs the typical crossbrace installation. The original poster planned to weld a 2x2 steel tube but found plumbing in the way, prompting requests for alternative ideas. Several RVers recommended the MORryde X-Factor drop-down crossbrace system, which is designed to clear plumbing by lowering the crossbar below obstructions. Photos and installation details were provided, including the use of longer bolts and steel... More...

I had previously posted about my broken spring hanger, soliciting ideas for repairs
Thanks to those who posted, and to @RetiredandRollin for his input also

I was going to have the 2x2 steel tube welded in, but in prep today....(welding tomorrow) don't think I can do that as plumbing is right in the way.

Anyone else run into this? How did you overcome it? Not really keen on the idea of rerouting plumbing in this spot. Will also ask the welder his thoughts.
Thank you

I think Morryde X-Factor system has some hangers that can be installed to lower the cross-bars below plumbing items. Maybe you can rig up something similar…see screen shot below…

Here is a picture of the MORryde drop-down x-factor that I installed on my Montana to clear the galley gray tank plumbing.

No, they were 7000# axles with 8000# springs (factory) and I upgraded to 8k wheel ends when I installed the disc brakes.

@m&k
what do the drop brackets attach to? I don't see a U bolt or other attachment.

I will also ask the welder tomorrow.... wonder if I could weld stub ends to the hangers and then weld the 2x2 to the bottom of the 2x2 stubs??

I installed mine before Lippert began using the angle brackets inside the spring hangers. There was a steel strap across the upper portion held in place with two hex bolts and the X-factors were furnished with longer wet bolts that replaced the original wet bolts. The extra length allowed it to pass through the end bracket, securing it to the spring hangers.
I believe, but not certain, that the design has changed to allow the x-factors to work with either the updated spring hangers or the old style, but attaching would be similar I imagine.

All welded up today...
thank you very much to all that responded
we could not weld the crosspiece, but the axles are braced significantly better than before

I was going to suggest welding 3/8 plate to the ends to drop down the cross brace tubing. What did you end up doing instead?

currently no crossbrace, but do have the reinforced hangers with a triangle welded on the long side also.
it is much much more than it was before the reinforcing, so I feel good about our upcoming trip to Raleigh, NC

need to see the xbrace drop supports to make an opinion.... just not sure which direction to jump on this yet

thanks for asking

This is how I repaired my spring hanger failure about 8 years ago. Haven't had a single problem with this setup. Not at all costly.

Good shot of the new style x-factor ends. The strap goes on the outside of the spring hangers using longer bolts to accommodate hangers that would have the angle reinforcement. The strap on my older style went on the inside of the hangers before the angle reinforcements were used.

Thanks again to all who offered suggestions... I feel I am 80% of the way to final repair. New braces I expect will help tremendously, and hopefully avoid any future problems.

when I figure out best crossbrace option, will be 100% there.
