My Internet Setup

I have had my new 5th wheel home for almost a week now. I have installed what I think is going to be a pretty solid internet connectivity setup for me, and I think it turned out pretty good. I did have to put a hole in the roof, but it is tightly sealed under a water tight electrical box. Mounted a Parsec 4 LTE/2 Wifi/1 GPS antenna on top of the box, and put my Starlink cable through a marine cable gland in the side of the box. The router with auto fail over functionality can use WAN, Wifi and Cellular data to provide a single LAN in the camper, so a little set up at each campsite and all my devices connect to the same internet where ever I go. Think I'm going to like it!


The nice thing is there was a small cubby under a cabinet door that was useless for storage, but worked great to mount my router so all my cables are hidden. The only accommodation I had to make was for the Starlink router that powers Dishy. I added an outlet on my inverted power in the cabinet so I can run the sat off battery. Should work great to boondock somewhere without cellular and still have internet.
 
If you are using a Pepwave router SFC is well worth it. It’s actually included in primecare.
 
We have the original Max Transit Duo with Primecare. I can’t recall how much SFC comes with PC buut it was a pretty good deal to add more. I bond all of my Wans, or at least those with similar response times and/or jitter
 
Do you happen to use a VPN? I am working on the road and my company computer uses a VPN they manage. I am not sure yet if the SFC and company's VPN will play nice together, or if they will fight each other. I do know (now) that the failover in the router requires me to login again on the VPN.
 
I'm NOT against learning new things, and especially new terminology - especially that which is new to me personally. With that said, you folks would have been roaring laughing watching me Google abbreviations like SFC and words like primecare......
Got it now, but started out with "Sent From China" and care for invalids.... Could you imagine the bewildered expression on my face? LOL
 
I work ft from the road as well. SFC(speed fusion cloud) is essentially a cloud based vpn that allows your Pepwave to link multiple connections as use them as a single pipe. I also run a required client side vpn within the speed fusion cloud. I utilize the outbound connection rules so that only my work traffic traverse’s the SFC vpn while keeping things like streaming using the wan link with the fastest response time. This saves my metered SFC connection for important work traffic.

Good to know on the VPN compatibility. I'll have to look into that a bit more. It has been a steep learning curve already getting to this point.

Attaching a couple pictures of the install before I put the panel back on. Most of the wires will be behind the panel when it is closed up again.

I thought Starlink wouldn’t allow you to move your location. How does it work moving and how big of an area do you travel in?
 
Their are now two plan offerings from Starlink. Starlink for RV's allow you to signup and get Starlink now without finding an open cell location. This plan allows you to move your dishy where ever you want to in the US offering area with having to change an address or register any address per se. The caveat is that your service is always deprioritized...but it works where ever you are. The original plan is tied to a service address and as long as you are at that address you get prioritized Starlink service as this is your home area. These account now can enable roaming which allows the user to move the equipment away from your service address and still receive service. The caveat here is that the roaming service is on a best effort basis and your traffic will be deprioritized. Once you return to your service address service is again top tier. You can also move your service address as availability afforeds itself but no guarantee that you can get back to your original service address.
 
The other difference is you can turn the RV one off when you aren’t using it.
 
Just a brief update: I was able to get the full setup put together. I have an aluminum flagpole from Harbor Freight that I removed the top ball and the bottom two sections from. I got a 3D printed insert that fits into the top of the pole after drilling out a couple screw holes for the clips to snap into. Then installed a flag pole buddy mount on my ladder. I also put a dry box on the ladder to store the Starlink cable end when the dish is dismounted. I can clip dishy into yhe flag pole snd set it up from the ground. Plenty of available extension to get it above the roof.
