This AI-generated summary may contain inaccuracies. Please refer to the full thread for complete details.
A member upgraded to Roadmaster Comfort Ride slipper springs but was still disappointed by fifth wheel chucking, and asked whether a MORryde rubber pin box or Curt Helux pin box would reduce the front-to-back motion before a long trip. Replies reported mixed results with the Roadmaster system: one member found it noticeably softer when tire pressure was set based on weight, while another said their ride became very rough and was waiting for guidance from Roadmaster.

We recently upgraded to the Roadmaster Comfort Ride slipper springs and had a chance to try it out this week. I was a little disappointed at the amount of chucking we are still experiencing.

For those who may have upgraded their pinbox to either the MORryde rubber pinbox or the Curt Helux pinbox: How much did that help with chucking? It would seem that the MORryde would help a lot, based on the way it would seem to dampen the front-to-back motion. I don't see how the Curt Helux works really help with chucking, but I thought I would ask those who have one.

I would like to leave the rally on our long trip with that issue resolved.

Thanks

Hmmmm…we also recently upgraded our suspension to Roadmaster Comfort Ride. First trip to TX coast was…I would describe as no different than the OEM springs…not bad but certainly no improvement. I had my tires inflated to 110 psi…waste tanks were empty…water tank had maybe 5 gal. Second trip a couple of weeks ago to San Antonio I decided to lower tire pressure to 105 psi just to see if it made a difference. Also had 5 gals in both black tanks + 15 gals fresh water. The ride was almost unbearable…the worst chucking rodeo I have ever experienced. On the way home, all tanks were empty, tires still at 105. DW complained of whiplash (figuratively not literally). She said I can brace off of the steering wheel but she had nothing to hold on to. It was BAD! Miserable!

10 days ago I sent an email to Roadmaster customer service describing all of this and asking for advice and help to improve the ride. “Josh” responded and asked for the invoice on my install + the rig weights + the truck weight + axle specs/diameter…all needed so he could make sure we got the right equipment. I told him I was looking for “free” fix or adjustment…not looking to spend $1700 for a new air ride pin box. I sent him a reminder email Monday this week…”Josh - still waiting to hear from you”. So far NOTHING. I am at a loss for what to do…besides kick my tire pressure back up to 110 psi.
So far - very disappointed.

I have not been reading the emails for the upcoming National rally in Elkhart. Does anybody know if Roadmaster will be there? Tell them two of us Montana owners are looking for solutions! I plan to get on the phone and call them on Monday.

In this thread there are two Montana owners who are not satisfied with the ride. I’m curious how I failed to find similar reviews of dissatisfaction months ago. Is this supposed to soften the ride? Is there a “break in” period and maybe the springs and shocks will relax instead of exhibit explosive reactions. It feels like the suspension is too stiff for a little ole Montana…maybe it works better on a big New Horizon fifth wheel.

First trip out with new Roadmaster springs/shocks: 2022 HC 295RL w/ 16K Goosebox= probably lighter than most. Roadmaster went through a "very" detailed explanation of tire PSI for my empty wt 11,500 lb (loaded closer to 13,500) 5er and recommended 75-80 PSI; previously, always ran max 110 PSI on Sailuns. I did that and ride was noticeably softer. No additional chucking etc noticed by me or wife. I know lots of disagreement with PSI; but, I checked tread depth as well as looking for wear marks and no issues with 80 PSI. Although, the trip was only 250 miles round trip. Start 3,000 mile trip in two weeks and will be watching tires closely. I monitor with TST (heat and PSI), heat gun and tread depth gauge while traveling. Time will tell and I'll be following the other owners responses.

Interesting. I've installed the Roadmaster system, noticeable difference in the ride, (Next after a couple trips) installed a Gen-Y pin box, I run our tire pressure at 95psi and feel a noticeable difference over factory. I don't believe you'll ever stop the bucking and chucking, most roads and bridge transitions.... they just suck everywhere.
Some upgrades we've done have helped some didn't help as much as we had hoped, i.e..(MoRryde CRE & ALLTREK) replacements just didn't change things enough. Timbern SES on the truck, switched to Air bags.
I didn't expect it to ride smooth as glass or like independent suspension or the unloaded truck, I expected it to help control some of the ride. It has.
Maybe my expectations of the ride are lower than others, expectations differ but for us the system did help in the way it handles the road, and how things ride within the rig. Not loosing trim inside every stop and things not shifting too much is a win also. We've pulled it 3 years now and over 10k miles in this configuration and have been pretty happy with it.

Here is the info I provided to Roadmaster in hopes that - given the weights and lengths - they could offer advice for improving the ride. Seems to me that if the Roadmaster system ALONE results in a bronc ride in the rodeo - they would not sell it without advising something like "Roadmaster Comfort Ride system plus and "air ride" pin box results in unprecedented smooth ride"...or something like that. That puts to cost of the smooth ride between $5000 and $6000...still cheaper than Morryde IS...but a stiff hit to my pocket book. (the dimensions and weights sketch has to be downloaded or click on "view" or "open file" to see it.)

So far I have not heard back from Roadmaster, and the only idea I have is to bump the tire pressures back up to 110 psi.

Re: PSI: At our first rally in 2023, I went to the RVSEF seminar re: tire pressure and did the weigh-out. We run at ~85 PSI.

And I didn't expect the ride to be *completely* smooth, but I was a little disappointed that it wasn't smoother. For those who haven't seen a RVSEF printout, showing each tire weight and resulting suggested pressure based on Sailun's load ratings, see attached. I can't seem to find Sailun's load pressure chart, but Carl n Susan posted something in 2018 @ Sailun LT Load Inflation Chart.

I use a GenY Pin Box on my 2022 3121 RL with a Pullrite Autoslide hitch. My chucking has been significantly reduced, but has not gone away. it is especially notable at bridge transitions and on bad roads. If the road is good, the ride is much better. I had to keep with he king pin set up because of my need for the additional clearance on Ram 3500 Mega Cab SRW short bed. If you have the room, I'd go to the goose ball. We really like to GenY torsion system and how it handles chucking. It tows much better than our original MoreRyde pin box that came with the fiver.
