We removed our (Gen 1) Morryde entry steps and installed the Lippert Step Above entry steps in 2024 because of the WIDE top step…its much better for us to step out on that wide top step. The Morryde step unit has been in my metals boneyard out back ever since.

So…I “installed” the Morryde riser unit at the foot of our bed at the S&B for our 10 yr old/ 70 lbs Aussie (Gus) to use to climb up on the bed.

We tried a “foam” step unit first…it was a big fail (what was i thinking?). It just crushed under his weight. Then we bought a plastic fold-out step unit on amazon and it was better, but i had to help him/steady him as he went up the steps because the unit was too narrow…maybe 17” wide. Gus is a sweet lover - not a fighter or risk taker…plastic steps were too small…VERY SCARRY! (The 8 yr old Texas heeler Jimmy can “flatfoot” the bed in a single bound…he is such a jock!)

Last week, i looked at the Morryde steps and decided Gus needed an upgrade. I put some 4x4 legs under the top, and stuck the old (brown) foam steps under the Morryde steps so the risers dont look SO OPEN and dangerous. I also covered the treads with some pieces of carpet tile. So far i think he likes it!
