Lug nut torque

Just to be clear Bob, you are saying that the lug nuts are rated lower than the studs? I was under the impression that the 7k axles (like mine) with 9/16 studs were torqued to 140-150?

In the past, I have looked in my "semi useful" Keystone Owner's manual, but I don't recall the exact numbers, just going on what others have posted here.

A 2011 Montana with 7K axles came with 1/2" studs and should be torqued to 110-120 Lbs.

Interesting...I have always been under the impression that the Dexter 7k axles came with the larger 9/16 studs.

So then I guess I need to re torque mine since they may be over torqued...

The rule-of-thumb (among some mechanics) is torque until you strip the threads, then back off 1/4 turn. :-(

I have actually done that...works quite well :D I then just slop some red Loctite on it and call it "good"!

This is way more entertaining than watching Rifleman re-runs; thanks covid.

According to Sendel, manufacturer of most aluminum wheels used on travel trailers, the recommended torque for their aluminum alloy wheels is as follows:

1/2" - 90-120 #ft
9/16" - 120-140
5/8" - 140-160
