Mike, they are talking about the assist handle being locked against the door, not the dead-bolt lock. Read the Good Sam article by Walt Bennett, he explains the problem very well.

i saw this some time back when i check our old gale our is if just push on the door it will open right up i don't known if this is just on the 3400rl or i have differnt type of handle but our will not lock in that pistion

My 3400RL has the window in the super slide so you could reach the handle and pull it back from the door if you had to. Why not just take a wire tie when camping in one place for awhile and put it around the top fitting to keep handle in the "out" position. When you are ready to hook up and move simply cut the tie. I would think that any idiot that came by and tried to lift the handle up and move it into the closed position would have to take a minute or two to figure why it wasn't moving.

Here is a very cheap and simple solution using 3/4" PVC.

I just cut a 1/2" long peice, and trial and error till it fit the way I wanted it too. Now I just have to match the fadded gray, and glue it into place.

And it does work, the door just pushes the handle over.

Just for grins, I tried mine on my 2013 343RL HC.

It was a breeze pushing it open. Much ado about nothing.

Mine does too, checked it out the first day that I had the trailer in 2009, but that's not to say that it could not be a serious issue for other owners if theirs don't open easily like ours do.

I would say for piece of mind and safety's sake, that every owner of an RV should check theirs just to be sure.
