i have a situation where i do not have jacks to lift my 5th wheel montana high country with jacks to get a tire slightly off the ground. is it safe to use the leveling system to do this both from personal safety, equipment safety and damage standpoint? it is a tandem axle unit -4 leveling legs plus 2 landing gear. Thanks

I would not use the electric system to lift the RV wheels off the ground. The hydraulic systems will do it, but I don't know if the electric system has the capacity and strength to do it safely.

I would use a bottle jack (inexpensive at Harbor Freight) under the axle where the spring plate connects. Make sure it contacts the spring plate and not the axle. It can safely and easily lift the wheel enough to clear the ground.

This is how we all did it prior to the leveling systems.

They actually do have the carrying capacity at about 4500 lbs ea. When I’m working on bearings, brakes, etc, I use the jacks to carry then support the frame with additional jack stands for my own peace of mind.

You really do need a bottle jack for these types of things. I will use the bottle jack to lift one tire off of the ground so I don’t have to lift the entire rig.

You can also connect the truck to carry the front of the rig and lower the rear jacks to relieve weight from the wheels.

If I may chime in. In your profile I can't see what you're pulling with, Buuuut if you happen to have a dually, most come with a very capable bottle jack tucked away behind your rear seat. In case it applies and you can save a buck

The electric jacks absolutely have the power to lift your wheels off the ground. However having experienced a jack failure I would not recommend it. The mechanical portion of the jack is a long screw. So if the screw has a capability of failure I would certainly not feel safe working on the rig relying on the jacks.

i have never been able to get my 340bh off the ground before the breaker trips. it gets close but no cigar

I know the electric jacks will lift the wheels off the ground. I have done it a few times, but not to change a tire. The auto level lifted one side off the ground when I was trying to get level on a very un level camp side. I had to use several blocks on one side, but end result was both tires on one side came completely off the ground. I could tell it put a strain on the system. I would make the same recommendations as others and use a bottle jack and jack stands. Do NOT put the jack on the axle. Use the frame rail if you can, or the plate under the springs at the axle. Put the jack stands in the same spots, NEVER the axle alone. You will likely bend your axle if you do that.
