Kitchen Slideout issues 2022 Montana 3121rl

My kitchen slideout on my 2022 Montana 3121rl makes a clunking noise like it is skipping gears when going out or coming back in. This happens just as it starts going out and then just before it has come back in. The rear end of the slideout does not go all the way out. Has anyone had a similar issue or know what to do to correct this?

We had something similar happen on the main slide. The gear teeth on the inner tube of one slide that the gear packs drive became worn on the outboard end so that the slide wouldn’t close all the way. Had to get a new tube since the gear is welded to it and slide readjusted.

Your outer tubes (that the inner tubes run in) might be crowned on the top allowing a gap in your gears. There are posts here about adding washers and/or a brace to correct it.

You might check your gears and teeth, get whatever the cause corrected before the teeth wear down too much.

Thanks. I didn't find any broken teeth, but will check again. You mentioned crowing but I didn't understand where this was occurring.

This is a very rough sketch - but when you look at the top of the tube coming thru the frame - the top part of the tube will be “crowned” or bent upward a bit to allow the slide support arm to rack upward rather than being kept true and plumb inside the tube when retracted. There are some neoprene guide pads to help keep the tube movement true.

Lippert has a fix-contraption that I have seen - but picture this…if you put a C-clamp over the frame tube and cranked down on it to straighten the crown back flat…that is more or less what the contraption does. There are threads discussing this…maybe someone can find them and post links.

I own a 2021 3121rl and had identical problem last winter while in Texas. Mike en Debbie is right about the cause. this problem was solved at a rv repair shop in Mission, Tx ($300more or less). They said this problem is well known with newer units and they manufacture steel clamp in advance. Works fine since then.

I have had the same issues on my 2022 and YES this is a known issue design defect (using metal that is too weak to support the kitchen slide weight) that causes the crowning. Lippert designed a factory fix that I had installed (it was covered under warranty) on both tubes of the kitchen slide, and have not had a problem since last year. Pictures of the new bracket (it looks like a U-bolt) and after installation so you can see the part number, which is a "3" Service Assy 366450, at least that is the part number for my 3231. Ignore the silver part in the picture, that's not it.

Talk to Keystone and see if they will fix under warranty.
