Is a Front Window Cover Worth It for Montana HC 295rl?

I have a 2025 Montana HC 295rl. I am considering purchasing a window cover to protect the front window while on the road. Is it necessary? Has anyone ever experienced a broken window caused on the road? These cover run north of $500!

Search the forum for a thread about FIT windshield covers from Dec 8 2025. I cant figure out how to provide a link on my iphone. In that thread i posted that based on my reading and contributing to this forum since January 2018 (my rig has front windshield) - broken windshields must be extremely rare. People come to this forum for help with all kinds of issues…but very few if not ANY broken or cracked windshield issues.

However- other issues have been discussed…leaks at the windshield…condensation pooling at the base of the windshield…heat gain thru the windshield…how to reset the electric shade at the windshield. Im not saying it does not happen, but i dont recall someone posting their experience getting a broken windshield replaced. When the windshields first appeared (2016 I think) there was lots of discussion pro and con. I have noticed the use of front windshields on various manufacturers trailers and fifth wheels has increased in recent years…not gone away with the dinosaurs.

If you want a cover over the windshield for less solar gain - that might be worth discussing. I do not own a cover for mine. The window shade works well enough for us…but we are not full timers.

Picked up a rock chip bringing my 22 HC home from dealer. Had it repaired immediately. Haven’t had any since.Looked for a cover at the time but couldn’t find anything. Zero issues with.
We love that window!

Same boat, we love the front windshield. We are thinking we will get a cover for ours also for that rare occasion a rock or something might hit it. We also can see the value of a cover just to keep the bugs off while traveling.

Well bit the bullet and ordered a windshield cover yesterday. ShieldTech had them 30% off and free shipping. Says will be here Friday. We shall she how we like it and if it stays on.

Got my cover installed yesterday. Man those magnets are strong . Looks good and we leave on a trip Wednesday so will see how she travels. Instructions say wriggles are from folds during shipping and should flatten out.

I'd like to know how you are able to get up high enough to attach the cover over the window. In order to reach the top of my window, I have to go through this procedure, it's just so tall. Bottom ladder is a 4 foot tall ladder. Top ladder is a 7 foot tall ladder.

I'd like to know if it works and stays on at 65 mph. I hate the rock chips, bugs and bird crap but love the window! My front cap has so many rock chips in it. A 10' ladder would work better Dutch. LOL

Well I will find out. At home installing it I used my big Little Giant Ladder which reached the top of window no problem in step ladder Mode. That is the Ladder I also use to wash front nose and window. I have a smaller little giant that I carry. I practiced today and it comes off fairly easy. I placed ladder on tailgate of truck and was able to get it on and off with out much problem. I will try different ways including getting on roof if I have to. The protection from bugs, rock etc. is going to be worth the hassle. We are leaving Wednesday for a 2 hour trip for a week and will update everyone on how it does.

See above. We leave Wednesday and will report back. WE also love or windshield and will be nice to have it clean when we get to our destination.

We have a 2021 montana high country 295rl and i purchased a window cover for it, on our 3rd day of our trip to alaska last summer, it flew off somewhere in British Columbia.

First trip with cover in the books. Was fine on way here at 70mph for highest speed. When we got here unhooked and just stood on tailgate and took cover off no problem. Nose is fairly low at this site so think getting it back on shouldn’t be a problem but will update.

Update: I did have to put my small A frame ladder on the tailgate to get cover back on. I could not reach the top good enough to get it one correctly. Not a big deal for me, It will just be another step when hooking up. We have a longer trip next week and will see if it still does good.

Well Update again. Second trip. It Blew off on 2 lane at 60mph. Truck passed us going the other way and off it went. Was able to turn around an get it. Luckily it went to the Right and into a field and not into traffic. I am going to email Shieldtech and see what they say.
