Members said the coach's internal surge protector was likely tripping because the generator was presenting an open ground or lacked a neutral-ground bond when connected through a 30A-to-50A adapter. Several members recommended using a neutral bonding plug in one of the generator's 120V outlets, either purchased or made from a standard three-prong plug by tying neutral and ground together.

The original poster reported that after making the bonding plug, the generator powered the coach...

I have a 2022 3121 RL and I am trying to use a Westinghouse iGen5000DFC generator to power my coach while boondocking. The igen5000DFC has a 30 amp RV receptacle on it. I use a 30 amp to 50 amp adapter and plug into the coaches 50 amp cord. When I do this, the internal surge protector trips. Has anyone experienced this. If so, how do you get the generator to power the coach? I have also tried the 110v plugs that are supposed to merge the ground and neutral lines to correct this and it has not worked. Any inputs would be appreciated.

You may have an open ground so you would need to put a grounding plug into you generator 110 plug. Something like this

A grounding plug is easy to make. All it is is a three pronged plug with the neutral and the ground wire together. If you already have one it’s a 10 minute job. Just be sure you wire the neutral and the ground together and not the ground and 120 together.

Thanks for all of your responses. I was able to make one. My generator is now able to power my coach!

Here is a pic of what I made. Works fine, planning to make another as a back up.

I do something similar, but I DO use a grounding plug, so have not had an issue.
Here's a link to a vid of my installation
