Intermittent Leak Around Roof Fan Vent in Kitchen

We had a violent rainstorm Friday night out camping and I had a slight leak around the fan vent in the kitchen of our 2021Montana 3121 . I was up looking at it today and there didn’t seem to be any issues with the caulking , does anyone have any idea of what the issue could be ? We’ve been through a couple rainstorms with no issue so it is a bit bizarre .

We dealt with that issue in 2024 with our 2022. We noticed the leak coming down the wall behind the microwave only when the rig was parked. I never noticed the leak while going down the road in the rain. Pulled the microwave out, found nothing obvious, removed the outside vent, cleaned everything and re-installed and re-sealed the original vent................................ still leaked........... So I called Keystone and complained so they sent me a new vent (thank you to Keystone)....repeated the process of removing and replacing the vent......................still leaked......

After all that I began looking at the vent and noticed the way the vent was constructed. Discovered there is a seam in the plastic mold of the vent at the bottom corners of the vent. I smeared silicon sealant along the bottom inside corners and no more leak. I Wish I had pictures to share but I did not save them.

All this to say, we had that exact issue, and this is what I found. The cause of your leak may be different, but this is what I found and It fixed our leak. Look at the bottom inside corners of the vent and add a bit of silicone in that area and see if the leak stops....

The vent is not designed/engineered well at all and Keystone needs to develop a better vent. The other comment I would make is there are locks on the vent to keep it closed when not parked, the problem is that the vent is so high off the ground how is any average person supposed to un-lock the opening in the vent???

The problem is the vent hood and flap isn't long enough to stop driving rain.
RecPro used to make a much better one that did have a longer hood/flap but they no longer make it.
I added gorilla tape to extend the hood. So far so good.

Oops my mistake it’s not the microwave vent , it’s the auto vent fan in the roof . It’s just above the end of the island and it’s at the highest point on the roof .

you mean this vent? mine also leaks during a driving rain. My son owns a rv roofing company we flooded it to make sure that is where it was coming in. it comes in at the corners when we put water to it. he ordered a differant new one which will be put on next month when he puts a new roof on my monty. the front of the roof is loose and bubbly and needs to be replaced.

No it’s the auto open vent on the roof , had a good rain today and no leak whatsoever , so weird .

we had the same problem with our 2021 High country. The leak would drip off the edge of the fantastic fan above the stove. Did many fixes and nothing worked but did find where the solar panel wires heading down into the coach had some bad caulking and that solved the problem even though the wires were over the hump in the ceiling, but water travels in the attic area strangely sometimes.

I’ve had a couple violent rainstorms this week and zero leaks, so strange .
