Installing Water Filtration 3720

We made the decision to install a Water Express 5 stage filtration system (with RO and UV). The installation was not to bad considering the small space in the island. 2 things I thought I would share;

1) How the Installation Went - in the island of the 3720 is a drain pipe and power. The entire corner is blocked off with a panel, first thing I did was remove this panel and the cutting board storage (under the sink right side). I then glued and screwed a 24”wide by 20” high piece of 3/8” plywood. The filter unit was mounted to the plywood, centred under the sink. To do this meant removing the sink drain piping. I moved the cutting board storage divider to the left side of the island instead of the 45deg drain pipe divider. The storage tank is just right of the new cutting board divider. A picture is worth a thousand words so a few are attached.


2) The Water Quality - first trip out with the unit and I must say its great . . . . It may be that we have great water at this first site. The reason we installed the unit is that we had always brought 4L jugs of water for drinking and cooking. It has been a must to have great water and not take any chances. This gives us great water, and no chance of bacteria as well as eliminating the plastic bottles and the pain of getting/hauling/storing water.

Is this an issue in Canada, I’ve never been but going next year while traveling to Alaska.
I’ve never had a water problem but we run a softener and the blue carbon filter.

That blue Camco particulate filter is not carbon. I filters sediment down to 5 microns. I would classify those as window dressing. We installed a three stage whole house filter as well as a UV treatment system at the kitchen tap. We also use a softener when appropriate based upon water hardness. The combination of these systems addresses hard water stains in the coach, and more importantly provides us with safe clean water without having to stock up and carry bottled water. Full timing that is something we just don’t have the room for and I don’t like putting all that plastic into land fills.

Are you filtering all water to kitchen faucet, or did you install a separate faucet for just filtered water?

Does/How does this system keep sediment out of the hot water tank, shower, bathroom sink? It looks like this is just for the kitchen.

In our case we are filtering all water that enters the coach via .5 micron sediment, carbon and metal trap. We have an additional UV treatment outlet at the kitchen sink for potable water.

That's what we are doing. DW will still insist on bottled water!

I haven't any issues with water in Canada, but staying in Quartzsite for the winter something needs to be done if you want to use the water for cooking and coffee. It has a taste issue however there is not much for sediment.

Coming home this year the water at the casino RV park in Anacortes, Washington when I turned it on and let it run at the spigot I could see rusty water. I left it run until clear before hooking up the hose and running the water through the in-house water filter.

Using a water filter will in most instances take care of any problems in both countries.

We did a 3 stage system in the basement on the bake wall! If your going to the filter water start at the begging not at the end.

We use a water softener, 5 micron sediment, then 0.5 micron ceramic jumbo, then 0.5 micron modified carbon block jumbo as final...all in the pass thru to service all water use in the trailer. The jumbo filters give us close to 5 gal per minute flow rate. These were all sourced from the rvwaterfilterstore store.

The system is just for a separate filtered water tap in the kitchen. This week is the first use and I have been happy with the capacity. The storage tank gives enough for normal use.

A big plus, my wife is happy with the water, so the battled water is gone.

I will look into a basic filter for all the water and consider a softener. The On-The-Go Softener seem to be revered to a lot in the various threads/discussions.

This system does not keep sediment out of the hat water tank etc. I definitely need a basic filter for the water main into the coach.

I'm not entirely schooled up on RO water systems, but it is my understanding that some generate about 10 gallons of waste water for every gallon of RO water they produce.

Is this correct? If it is one would need a sewer hookup to deal with that if any appreciable amount of RO water was used.

Please educate me if I have something wrong...

All reverse osmosis systems will flush a bit of water to get what goes in the small storage tank. I seem to recall 5 lost to one gained in the best systems.

I guess we are old fashion people....Just screw on the hose, turn it on, and life goes on.

When in Mexico we do buy water however.

We have never in years of Rv.ing had bad water anywhere taste and smell may be another story. We use a simple system purchased from the water system guy at a rally.
