how to heat without a fireplace

BB_TX, that's perfect! That's what I was hoping. I have heard some portable heaters that are louder than my Honda Generators, but my gennies are never in the rig. On the other hand a heater that moves a lot of air heats quicker to me and that's what I'm after. We have an Eden Pure and while it is very quiet the rig seems to take a LONG time to heat; the colder the weather the longer it takes and that kinda defeats the warming rate.

Keep in mind that basic thermodynamics apply here. A 1500 watt heater will provide about 5000 BTU's of heat. That is not quite comparable to our propane furnaces of 30-35,000 BTU's. Logically a 1500 watt heater will then take 6-7 times longer to heat up the rig provided that the fans are pushing a like amount of air. We use two portable ceramic heaters in cool weather (> 40 degrees) and even then when temperatures are lower, the furnace is needed as well. We usually set the furnace thermostat at about 60-65 and the ceramic heater thermostats at 70-75. Seems to maximize electric heat and conserve propane as much as possible that way.

I have not seen anyone post this solution. We had these installed in both of A/Cs in our previous 3750FL and they worked great. Was able to keep the RV warm when the outside temps were in the 40's. They run off your thermostat and use the campgrounds electricity so propane savings are huge. Looking at adding them to my new coach. You will need to check to see if they are compatible with your A/C and thermostat. Here is a link:

I have never understood the facination with fireplaces in RVs...other than they look good. They put out the same amount of heat as any electic heater, are expensive, take up valuable storage space and can't be moved.

We had two Lasko towers in our Montana, and know use them in the MH...they do fine.

Deleting the fireplace and the worthless built-in vacuum made Mama happy when we ordered the last Montana! Never used it on the previous 3400RL and prefer to have the extra storage.

I have to disagree about the fireplace taking up space. My recliners are on one wall slide and fireplace on the opposite wall slide from the fireplace and I can feel the heat from there. I love it and wouldn't have another Rv without one. With fireplace and one small heater in living room/kitchen in 40 degree or less temp, it keeps it toasty. The first time I saw a fireplace in an Rv, I thought how silly, but I surely changed my mind after having one. My biggest problem is my husband turning it off so we won't wear it out. LOL.

We have used different ceramic heaters in the stick house for years. We just purchased a Lasko tower on sale. It doesn't take up hardly any room and really heats up the Monte quick. Couldn't give up the factory fireplace though.
