Just retired, looking forward to seeing the country.

Hey there. I'm recently retired too. I took off most of the month of January to burn through some PTO, and then I went back on 1/23 for my retirement party and again the next day to turn in my three laptops.

I think we've been home maybe a month combined since the start of the year. We're home today packing for another trip and our neighbors all come out to tease us for being such ghosts.

So what are your travel plans? Big trips? Short trips? Planned? Impromptu?

I retired in 2006. Immediately took a 17 day trip. From then on it was a total of 150,000 miles. We visited every national park (original named parks) that you can drive to and finished in 2022 or so. Had some major mechanical problems the last 2 years so wife kind of wants to hang it up! I am hoping for 2 more summers (when I turn 80). Want to get out of AZ summers! Have fun and see the country!

I retired July 2024. I had been working from home since Aug 2019, so being home with DW (and not in traffic + at the office) was a not a new routine. She has been fighting neuro-endocrine cancer for the past 2 years, so I needed to be home with her anyway. I did not realize how much of my brain was occupied daily by work related responsibilities until it was all gone! I don’t miss it. She will have a PET scan next week and we will get an update on the current state of her battle.

Welcome to the forums and congrats on your retirement. I retired January 2022 (I think???) It's been great ever since!

Here's some food for thought:

The journey is great! With "retirement" .... there is NO LONGER a "destination." The final "destination" was reached. That was "retirements" Now, it all a "journey!" There is no end to reach any more! Enjoy your new journey! Congrats! Happy and safe travels!
