Helium Refrigerators

Do any of you have a fiver with the somewhat new helium charged refrigerator? I'm just curious as to operation compared to the standard ammonia/hydrogen units. Atwood seems to have made these units available to the public for 2-3 years now. It's still an absorption system, just uses less flammable helium instead of ammonia.

That's funny, Atwood made a big presentation at the rally and never mentioned refrigerators. They talked about fantastic fans, furnaces, water heaters and stoves, but didn't even mention they made refrigerators and I would imagine most of us didn't even know to ask.

Ammonia isn't flammable, may they are more efficient, safer to work with, with the price of helium,and shortage, it sure isn't cheaper.

Helium isn't just less flammable than hydrogen, it is completely non flammable.

The dirigible Hindenburg exploded in Lakehurst, New Jersey because the United States prevented the sales of helium (which it had an almost 100% lock on from Texas deposits) to **** Germany, much like the oil embargos on Iraq today. As a result, the Zeppelin company was forced to substitute helium with hydrogen which can be easily made by pouring an acid over a metal; but that gas, although the lightest element known to man, is extremely flammable.

And now you know.

And it's probably the reason Montana doesn't call their lighter weight fifth wheel trailers "Hydrogen Technology!".

grayghost03 ... your ammonia charged refrigerator has ammonia, hydrogen, and water inside the coils to make it all work. I'd forgotten about all the side benefits ... voice changes, better gas mileage due to lighter fiver, more caution needed during high winds since the tether may break allowing the fiver to float away ... Ha! I'm not really concerned with the non flammable benefit ... just wondered how the helium stacks up against the ammonia systems. I was tagging along with a friend looking for travel trailers ... the salesman was giving her the pitch about helium friges ... that's how this all got started.
