Has anyone ever tried this?

I was just on the Farmer's Almanac web site looking at a section about "camping." One of the "tips" given there was this:

To keep marshmallows from burning dip them in water before holding them over the flame.

I've never tried this, but just wondering, if you've done this, does it work?

Sounds like it might work. Waster boils off at 212 degrees so that is as hot as they could get until all or most of the water is gone.

Nothing like seeing a kid panic because their marshmallow caught on fire and fling that burning thing across the campsite.

When our daughter was young many years ago, my wife was the girl scout leader for her troop. That's one of the things she taught them along with using dryer lint candle wax to make fire starters inside the paper rolls from toilet paper and paper towels.

Seems like a terrible idea, if you can’t turn them into torches they’re just no fun!
