Generator mounting in TV

I know that there might be some drawbacks about putting genny in TV but I don't plan on unhooking the TV from the monty and Mama goes everywhere I go so would that be a good option? I also plan on installing solar and using the genny very sparingly! How far from the Monty can you put it and still be able to hook up to your unit?

Our is in the very front right side just behind the tailgate. When we need to use it which is not often we move the truck so the gen can reach. We do not boondock and have little use for a generator. We use it more at home in the event of weather related power outages than on the road. If I had to do it over I would not spend the money for a generator for the RV. We have had this one for 7 years and have only used it twice camping at Quartzsite.

We have two Honda's and place them behind the rig when we use them. Since I've got 25' of extra power cable I could place them 50' from the rig but no reason to. As Rich says we seldom use them for the rig, about once or twice a year. Because their small, portable and can be used separately they do get used more often than that, such as to power tools in odd places etc.

Our 2 Hondas are permanently mounted in the TV behind the hitch. We unhook from the Monty and use an extension cord to reach the generators when needed.

I think I used my genset 3 times in the last 20 years. I don't stay many paces without elec hookups, I think I am getting old or lazy, maybe both

On our previous rig (3400), it had an automatic transfer switch located in the battery compartment so I added a receptacle at the front of the rig. I could travel with our 3000 watt generator in the bed of the truck and run the generator to provide power to the rig while in transit so I could run the second smaller (13,500 btu) air conditioner (our pets are crated in the rig). An automatic transfer switch is not that expensive to add in to a rig that is not equipped with one. I think the receptacle was the most expensive part since we went with a 50 amp receptacle. A 30 amp to 50 amp cordset completed the system. Just providing this so you are aware that there are other options available where you can leave your genny in the truck.

Sorry Dieselguy, what I meant by not unhooking from Monty was while we are traveling I don't plan on unhooking from the TV, to go to the store or sightseeing etc... We will have the bike for that and will be stocked when we settle for any length of time. Just wondered if we had them in the TV if we would be able to hook up to them without moving them closer to the Monty and I think my question was answered so thank all of you for your replies!
