Dear Montana wizards,
I have a 2020 Montana 3780RL bought from a Canadian dealer in 2023. The original owner of the fifth wheel lived in AZ. While the Montana now lives in a milder and moister climate than Arizona, I believe it must have taken a lot of sun early in its life. Reportedly it was stored for nearly two years during the CV-19 period, but I have no idea whether that was outdoors or in. The Montana was in excellent shape when I bought it in the spring two years ago.
The issue: Up at the top of the cap, between the front roof seam and the full, rounded nose of the cap, is the area that could be likened to the 'forehead' of front 'face' of the fifth wheel. In this area, across the horizontal width of the RV cap, the finish on the gel coat has blistered and is very fragile. Even lightly brushing it takes the coating off right down to the dark base material underneath. I'm scared to mess with it! But I want to protect the RV surface and stop further decay here.
Solutions? I'm wondering what the best way is to treat this area, halt further deterioration of the surface, and seal the surrounding surface to keep the problem right where it is. I have no idea what kind of paint, or sealant, or other product to use to accomplish this?
Has anyone dealt with this issue? Thank you!
