Furniture replacement problems. Suggestions please.

On our HC HM375FL the two couch/beds the finish is peeling off the fabric so I want to replace them. Have been to RecPro and several other sites but haven’t found the unique replacement required.
The couch actually sits on a raised pedestal in its nook of about 6 1/2”. The front of the couch actually has a panel across the front at the base that covers this from the front making it look like the pedestal is not there. As the couch sits in front of and under a window, the actual back height of the couch cannot exceed 29” tall which is a measurement that I cannot find from any manufacturer. The couch itself is 29” tall, 69 1/2” wide and 31” deep. It is not a jackknife model but a fold out.
Any ideas? I am tiring of replacing the junk furniture in our three fivers. Our 2018 Mobile Suites has new double recliners and is in need of a new couch. (So much for buying the “best available”) our 2019 Montana is in need of new recliners as well. Now our 2016 needs both couches replaced! GRRRRRR!

Byron - I looked at the choices on RecPro.
If you actually use both couches as beds from time to time - I would go with the jack-knife style, and simply let the carpet on the slide face show…something like this one…

I would call RecPro and find out if the 70” unit will squeeze into your 69 1/2” slide box.

I am pretty sure that I looked at that one. Look at the height. I believe it will cover too much of the window. Many of the jack-knives need a few inches of clearance in the back which is not possible as the unit is on a pedestal that is about 6” tall. If you look at the lower right a left corners you can see almost how high the pedestal is.
Thanks for the suggestion!

Byron - do your couches mount to “legs” (see image below)?
If you have legs currently - maybe you mount a new couch to those legs to get lower height. The legs that come with this couch give it the 34” rear height.

Because we have dogs with significant toenails - we have always covered our easy chairs and the couch. We have not experienced peeling pleather YET!…but it may happen someday. If you search RV couch covers - there are lots of options and they are much cheaper than new couches.

Unfortunately, no legs. That was probably the first thing I looked for. Even looked at replacements with legs to remove.
I appreciate your help, sir!

Make your own frames with 2x4s and plywood gusset to the proper height.

That is probably what I am going to have to do. I will keep hoping for an “easy” solution until I have no other options. We are only here a couple weeks a year so I can cover this furniture rot with a blanket or something! I may end up tearing the platform out (messy job and a lot of work) if I come up here feeling VERY industrious.
Thanks once again!

Push the easy button…cover.
Permanent fix is now #61 on the “to do” list!!!

Bingo!!!! That is what I plan on bring back whenever we have time to return. Heading to the other side of the earth for a couple of months in two weeks. Not doing winters in Mexico for a few years. Drive down was too dangerous.

We bought the couch and recliners from Rec Pro a couple years ago. The faux leather started peeling after about one year. Fabric looks nice but it doesn't hold up.

We replaced our peeling leather furniture, queen sofa and entertainment chairs) in our 2016 3160 Legacy two years ago with RecPro fabric pieces. All both units are holding up well.

We have replaced some of the furniture in our other two rigs with items from RecPro. Only problem is that none of the pieces in their catalog meet my size needs. None of them!

Bryon_B, I also have a MHC 375FL (2019 model) with the same fold out couch / bed in the opposing slides in the front living room. I know what you are talking about with that raised platform.

First, you well know, there is nothing you can do about that rise, because the bottom of it is the floor of the actual slide. It steps up a few inches and couches themselves hid the rise. To replace with a normal recliner chair or a recliner couch, or anything, the seat will be so high from the main floor it will be horribly uncomfortable. Plus, the depth of the slide itself will not permit any type of recliner because it simply is not deep enough.

My wife has not liked those couches for some time now. They are not flaking (yet) after all this time, but the double seater recliner facing the television is. It started about 6 months ago (it took that long -- almost 6 years) before it started. And all this time I thought I had the "exception". But nope! Mine is just as lousy as everyone elses.

Because of the unique configuration of the couch, how it fits into the slide, it will be near impossible to find anything that will match, or fit.... unless you are fortunate to find an exact replica of it. Your best solution is to cover it and hide the offensive pealing.

By now, you have figured out the couch itself just sits in the slide out. It's not anchored down or built in. It can be removed as easy as as anything. Ours occasionally slides forward and I have to push them back. And when both are out in bed position, I pull them together so the bed ends actually touch each other, making one big, gigantic bed across the living room.

I would like to swap out the double seater facing the television because because of the flaking material, but actually, the seat is very comfortable. We purchased a snap over head rest for high backed couches or recliners and that made it very comfortable. So, even though it's flaking, I don't want to give it up yet. More than likely, when the time comes, we'll just throw a cover over it ... or maybe, have it reupholstered.

I don't know about yours, but on ours, the couch on the passenger side of the camper has wires under it. Removing the couch will expose a bunch of wire. Open your couch into bed position and make sure there are no wires that will have to be dealt with if you replace it with something else. Those slide outs are nice, but they are very limiting if you want to make changes.

We bought a couch from Shop4seats.com 2 years ago that we really like. The material is supposedly the same that is used for boat seats, which is pretty durable.

Dutchmansport, Thanks for the reply, sir! Glad I am not the only one with this model. Mikendebbie sent me a link to a cover that I might try. This is actually our number 3 fiver. It sits on 10 acres of land we own outside Ruidoso NM. Wish it could be more often but we only get there about a week or two a year. Our door side actually has 3 screws and brackets holding the couch in place. Haven’t looked at the other side to check for wiring. Maybe next year….

My wife and I were able to find suitable furniture at a local furniture store at a substantial cost savings. Plus, they removed and discarded the old furniture.

Sadly we had the same issue starting in our 2017 375fl but in the recliners. Couldn't find replacements that looked suitable. Not sure who the manufacturer of them was. Those things started cracking at about 6 years. Quality level was kind of sad.

Lambright makes quality rv furniture. The familiar brands we see advertised will provide the same disappointing results. Covers will just contain the continued self destruction of the seating surface.

Poor quality furniture

I don’t really know what the answer is to the poor quality of the furniture in modern or recent year rvs. Manufacturers are reducing costs wherever they can in every aspect of the construction of our rigs. We presently own three fivers we live in. Our most costly rig is a 38’ DRV or Mobile Suites. High dollar and supposed to be one of the best manufactured rigs available. But it the quality we paid for is not there. This is our second DRV which we purchased new in 2019. The quality is not near(in many examples) of the quality of the Mobile Suites we bought new in 2004. Our Montana got new recliners last year and our High country needs new couch/beds in the front living room. Our 2019 Montana is just ok. We have spent major dollars doing improvements from disc brakes and independent suspension to replacement of one of the two a/c heat pump units. Yes it is a legacy edition.
For the money we pay for these rigs, how can we get a decent quality rig? I don’t believe it is possible!
Sorry for the lengthy rant.

We bought 2 rocker recliners from REC PRO and after VERY little use one chair started peeling on the back where your head would be. We ordered a new back for the chair at a cost of $200. I put chair covers on the chairs which barely fit after using many bungy chords to hold in place. We have not used the chairs since because of cancelled trips due to truck repair and broken leg on trailer. Worst summer ever after having to cancel all trips. Maybe next year will be better, if age doesn't catch up with us.
