Member Title: MorRyde Steps and Door Closing
Members report frequent issues with Keystone RV doors being difficult to close when equipped with MorRyde fold-out steps, especially on 2021–2022 models. The most common causes identified include misaligned or bent step stops, worn or loose hinges, and interference from the step latch or threshold. Several RVers found that adjusting or replacing the step stops, tightening or replacing worn hinges, and lubricating the lock and latch mechanisms significantly improved door function. One member...

Is anyone experiencing door closing issues with the Keystone fold out steps? My 2022 3121 RL Legacy requires a very hard door slam to get the lock to catch. I suspect this is due to the stops on the fold out steps that are in the door jam. My lock plate that is mounted in the door frame is already adjusted to it maximum outward adjustment. I'm curious if anyone has encountered this same issue and what was done to correct it.

I don’t have the Mor Ride steps but I just had very hard to close door problems for over a year. Read an article about the hinges going bad. Well I had the top and bottom heanges going bad. You could not tell they were broken! Ordered two new hinges from the manufacturer. The door closes perfectly now, no slamming!!

Yes, I've added the step latch to them to secure better when Closed. Bought it through ETrailer....https://www.etrailer.com/Accessories-and-Parts/MORryde/MR97BR.html

Also found that the lag bolts on the hinge bracket that attaches to the floor were loose.
The rivets that hold the steps to the hinge at the top of the steps were worn and loose, I replaced those rivets with larger ones, and added 1 on each side to the center top so secure them better.
Doors been working nice now for about a year. Much better than fighting with it to open and close.

I have the same year and model as you. I had the same problem, and after two hours of trying to figure it out with a tech, we realized that the top plate in the door frame was bent. The factory sent a new one, and we installed it. No more problem.

It may not be the stairs at all. I've had issues with my door closing and the striking plate on the door frame was too low and wasn't allowing the door latch to go into the hole in the striking plate.

I suggest getting a quality dry lube spray for not only the hinges but also the lock and latch mechanism.
We are in our rig 6 months out of the year. Ours is a 2014 Mountaineer. At about 4 or 5 years the door started being hard to close ( don’t slam ) they will break down in short time. Pull the latch and push the door shut then release the latch.
Our Mountaineer is now 12 years old and every season I reapply the dry lube and no more problems with hard to shut door.

We had the same issue with our HC331rl. Now, when I close up, I use a 3-step process that solved the issue.
1. Flip the steps up and in. 2. Open the latch panel on the screen door, put my hand through the hole and gently push on the steps as I close the screen door. 3. Close the door. There's no latch to hold the steps in place when they're up, so they tend to lean out as you're trying to close the door. Once the screen door is closed, that holds the steps in place so they don't interfere with closing the exterior door.

I have a 2019 3120RL with the MORide fold down solid steps.
Are you having issues closing the door when the steps up (put away), or when deployed (out and in use)?
My door will hangup on the stair's threshold unless I the pads are a smidge (1/8 inch) off the ground until I step on them. Is that what you meant by the top plate in the door frame being bent?

Same issue with our 2021 year rig. The hinge had worn out for the steps. I had it replaced under aftermarket warranty. We also changed out the railing to the new safTrail as well. Better than new now.

Thanks to those of you that have responded to my post. My rig is in storage. I'll head over there this week and check out the numerous suggestions. I appreciate all of your responses.

Thanks, looks like we are neighbors. I live about 4 miles down the road from you! Thanks for the feedback.

The door is hard to close for both scenarios 1.) steps inside RV 2.) steps deployed outside of the RV

You might want to check your screen door, it maybe loose.
Make sure all the screws are tight.

I experienced the same issue on our 2022 3121RL when closing the door. I removed the step stop plates a couple years ago that went between the door and the door stop and installed a sliding door bolt to the inside casing to hold the steps in place. It takes an extra few seconds to secure the step but I did not like the pressure it was putting on the door. Just try removing the plates first to see if that helps your problem.

I took a look at my RV door this past weekend. The door only closes with difficulty when the steps are in the retracted position. I noticed the step stops were not 90 degrees and bent them back into position. I also removed the rubber on the part of the step stops that connect with the door frame. These 2 things have made the door stop flush with the door frame. The door now closes better than before. I've also ordered the More Ryde door latch mechanism that is similar to what you have done in your pictures and will install it once it arrives.

Thanks for your creative inputs.

I ordered and installed the MORryde piece that replaces the one that comes with the steps on the left side.

Now steps are held in place and NOT with the screen door.
