Anyone planning a trip to Alaska this year should keep watch on fires. There is currently a fire in the Ft Nelson, Canada area, including some evacuations, which could affect anyone traveling toward Alaska since that is one of the main routes from the US.

We were in Banff, Lake Louise and Jasper last summer. With the smoke from wild fires in British Columbia drifting in, some days you could hardly see the mountains surrounding those locations.

We had smoke from the Canadian fires here in Western Virginia last summer.

This fire is along and straddling Hwy 97 near Ft Nelson, a major route US to Alaska. And still spreading rapidly. And Ft Nelson is being evacuated. People have been advised basic necessities may not be available in the area. Would not be a good time at the moment to head that direction.

In July of 2015 we attempted to go up to /Banff and Jasper area , but turned around in Spokane Washington because of the fires. We did do the trip 2016 during late May and June with no fires in the area. What beautiful country. Its too bad about the fires because of climate change. We did see some of the burnt area from the 2015 fires.
