Fireplace Fan

The fan on our fireplace is not connected with the thermostat so when the heating element cuts off the fan is blowing cold air creating a draft. Are all of the fireplaces wired this way? Is there a easy way to rewire the fan to the thermostat? The fireplace in my last rig did not have a fan at all...only the lights and heating element so I don't know if it is supposed to be this way.

Here's how mine works. There's a main toggle switch to turn everything on. Then there's a rotary switch that controls how much light for the simulated flame and another rotary switch for the temperature (I can't feel a click about when the thermostat kicks in and I think the fan gets turned on but I can barely hear it but I can feel the heat blowing out when the temperature gets too low and the heating element turns on. So I think it's different from yours in that mine seem to be wired together.

Since it appears your model operates differently so I'm not sure it would be easy to retrofit the switches to work together versus just buying a new fireplace insert. Replacing the unit would be more expensive than connecting switches, but there are safety concerns you won't have to worry about.

Really? That's the first I've heard of that situation. All the electric fireplaces we've had, the fan comes on and off with the heating element. Sounds like something got incorrectly wired at the factory? Is this the Dimplex fireplace? Our Dimplex has three knobs and one main switch. The main switch is for powering up the fireplace, then one knob is for the flame "speed", second is for the lighting brightness, the third is the thermostat control. Heating on, fan on. Heating off, fan off.

Mine does not have a fan nor did the two or three others I have worked on. The heat transfer is strictly convection. I'm surprised Art's does as his trailer is the same year as mine although a different model. Still have the three knobs but no fan. Anyone know when they started adding them? Perhaps they were an option. I know they are an option on some of the house heatalators. Jim

on our 2013 3400RL the fan stays on all the time. When the thermostat shuts off, the fan stays on.

In our SOB the fan runs with or without heat and agree it does make for a draft if the element turns off.

We've three rotary and two rocker on/off switches. The rocker on the left turns the lights on/off, the one on the right turns the heater on/off. Rotary ones do the same as others have said.

On our 2014 the fan stays on as well. The service tech mentioned it during the PDI. There has got to be a reason, I just don't know what it is, motor or bulb cooling perhaps?

My 2007 3400 fireplace has a toggle to turn on the entire system, next to that is two control knobs - one for the amount of light the other for the speed of the flame. Then - on the other side - there is another toggle switch which turns on the heater with a corresponding knob for the thermostat. I can definitely hear when the heater fan is on or off...

On our 2014 If the heater switch is turned on the fan runs all the time and does not follow the thermostat.

Our fireplace has a rocker switch to the left, with either on or on by remote. Next are the two rotary for flame speed and lights.

On the right is the thermostat switch and to the right of it is a rocker on/off switch which turns the heater and fan both off allowing only the fireplace flame to operate. No blower.

It is a Dimplex. Since we have a remote we control the heat with it. When we get warn, just turn it off with the remote.

Our fan also runs all of the time whether the heat is on or not.

Our fireplace works just like described by jlb27537 and we use use the remote to click it on and off, the fan and heat come on and go off together. When brand new we preset those little switches and from that time have always use the remote. I think ours is working correctly.
