Entry door lock problems

Luckily I'm not locked out of my 3402RL, but the latch lock is broken in the unlocked position. Luckily the deadbolt works. From the outside, the latch lock looks like the rectangle piece that springs shut to keep the elements out is visible down in the lock and will not spring back. It will also not let the key in to lock it. I don't know if this is repairable by removing and working on it our needs to be completely replaced along with the deadbolt. It's probably not worth the cost of time and fuel to tow it in for a warranty replacement, since it looks to be replaceable as an assembly. Maybe even get the keyless entry version.

Any advice on this?

Use the deadbolt as anyone can use their key to get into the other lock.

I replaced mine with the keyless lock system. Looks to be more durable than stock

Since my deadbolt uses the same key as the entry door, these locks are mostly worthless. I'd completely replace it something more worthwhile like a keyless entry system. I believe there are some made specifically for RVs (why the specifics, I don't know, but it should add to the cost, I'm sure).

I live in a populous community and I would probably look for an RV salvage place locally and get a replacement. Hopefully I could find the part and just replace it so the key doesn't change. I am mechanically adventurous and this would be well within my talents so even under warranty I would have taken care of this myself - just like I fixed the deadbolt when the rig was brand new. (They had not drilled the hole correctly so the deadbolt would not engage, so I had to redrill it to position to get it to work correctly). Sometimes it's easy, sometimes it's not.

my deadbolt uses the same key as the latch lock. For now, the deadbolt seems to work fine. But I had to spray some WD40 into to; in fact until I sprayed all the locks with WD40, none worked easily. I'm surprised at the high cost of the keyless entry locks. I'll check with the RV dealer and see if they will just sell me the Keyless entry part they use at a discount since replacing the original luck would be under warranty.

2014 door locks are different keys than some previous models. Not sure when they changed. New handle lock should be warranty. Maybe contact Keystone customer service, or have dealer do same?!

Over the years folks have had to take the screws out and reattach or lubricate parts inside of the old style locks. Maybe the new ones aren't any better.

I took my lock out and took it to a locksmith and had them rekey it and as it was out I lubed all the parts and good to go ever since EASY JOB

On mine, I had trouble getting the key into all the locks even after spraying lube in them. They would only go in if they centered right on the money.

The very tip of the keys have very sharp edges, I used a small file to knock down the sharp edges. Now the keys work much better.

I know that isn't your problem Jim, but I thought I would share the issue I had. Remember when you had keys made, the guy would run the new key over a wire wheel to knock off the sharp edges.

It seems like I should replace with a keyless unit.

I changed the lock cylinder like DougNDawn did. My was not broken but was being recalled due to a possible problem. Contact them and get a consult. My locks were built by them and they had more knowledge than the dealer or repair shop would have.

My problem is not the deadbolt, and the recall does not apply, so I either just do a warranty replace or do a keyless upgrade.

The keys fit both lock and the handle lock is the same on most RV's but only your key will fit the dead bolt. When you go to an RV repair shop they ask you not to lock the dead bolt.

We had two fall apart on the 06 3400 over a 7 year period. They are kind of flimsy but two in 7 years isn't bad.

There have been several posts on this subject but I can't find them at the moment. Also I would not use WD 40 on any of my locks because it will attract dirt and dust making the locks work harder. I would spray the locks now with a carburetor cleaner and then spray them with a silicone lube or a dry lube of some sort. These do not attract or hold dust thus making the locks work easier!

I contacted Fastec concerning my recall. They are great to work with you. Fastec shipped new lock cylinders and the "special key" to change the cylinders. I did have to clean edges of new key. I now have a different key number and things work good. I do like the idea of removing the lock and having locksmith change the lock. I do wish rv industry would stop using generic entry and storage locks for your next door camping neighbor has a key to enter your rig.
