Changing holding tanks>>unit model added

My gally holding tank is leaking. I am wondering of anyone has tried to tackle changing a holding tank out on thier own??? For now I can't tell if it ia crack, split or whatever it may be. I have the time, just not the certainty of how to approach it. Any help will be helpful. The tank is located in the rear under the living area. We have a 2007 Montana 3500RL.

Wheelhouse --It would help if you told us what model and year your unit is. The newer ones have a full belly cover and the older ones have split belly covers. It could help on the answers you will receive!

It will be a lot of wrenching ,getting the belly covers off is a bit awkward , then the rest should not be too bad , I just finished removing a couple section's of the cover to get to a hydraulic line to replace. You probably only need to remove one or two section's to do the job. IMO the belly covers are the worst of the job.

It is probably the outlet of the tank, real common, I will find my slideshow of the fix.

Just replaced my galley tank which had a big split in it. Well I didn't do it, the dealer did cause I had an ext. warranty. But without the warranty it would have been close to $1000. Parts were cheap, just a lot of labor. Lesson learned is never let the tank get too full.

I just had to have my black water tank replaced on our 2011 3400. I plan now to keep the old tank and try Ozz's repair so that I will have a replacement if it cracks again. I like the idea of putting a rubber piece in to handle stress. I think I will do this if the dealer hasn't already done it when replacing the tank.

We had to change out a black tank a few years back. It was a pretty good job and thus our decision to hire it done. It was well worth the cost of removing all of the belly cover, insulation, etc., in order to make the change correctly.

Sorry everyone who has responded to my quest. We have been on the road traveling and trying to catch up on our adventure. Yes, the tank is still cracked. Just recieved the Plasti-Repair kit Oz suggested. I'll try the repair today or next weekend. My hopes are that the leak is minor and not a complete replacement. Wish me luck and I will post my results. Thank you all for the help.

Good luck, follow the directions and give her a few coats. Don't forget the two rubber couplings, or you will be fixing it again in a few weeks.

I finally got the repair done. Now I hope it doesn't happen again. The Plasti-Mend kit was the perfect fix. It took a little longer because the saws-all blade drifted and had to run back to the hardware store for another fitting for the fix. While I was under the unit, I used my vise-grips to tighten a couple of loose screws to get the squeek out of the floor. I noticed the tank sensors were easy to get to, so later I will replace those with the tephlon type.
