Cargo carrier for generator

I commend you on changing to a two point attachment arrangement. Minimizing movement of the weight hanging off the back of the frame is critical to avoiding metal fatigue. Despite some comments about the designed weight limits for the OEM receivers,
any design that allows multiple G-forces to cycle on and off at a single point is bound to fail, probably with little warning.

We used the Mount n lock safety struts. Part number 1SNUHD. Just and adde piece of insurance to support the bumper. Between watching it in the observation camera and friends in our group following very little movement with the two arm tray

I did one that I bring my generator with sometimes. Carried my old axles back home after the IS install at Elkhart. It didn't fall off driving up 131 in the LP.

I’m looking at buying a generator to carry with us when we travel. I was thinking about buying a dual fuel generator and buying a 30lb propane tank to have a third tank for the generator. Those that use gasoline, is it an issue to carry gasoline and how much gasoline do you carry for the generator?

I bought a 60" wide folding hitch carrier at Home Depot.
Found out you can't fold it because the ladder is in the way.
You will need a hitch Stabilizer to take the left/right wobble out of it.

I normally carry 2-3 gallons of gas with me. I primarily depend on solar.

There is another way to take the wobble out of it. The pin that attaches it to the hitch is 5/8 inch OD. Replace it with 5/8 bolt and put a 5/8 nut in the 2 inch tube tightening it down, no wobble. It will be as strong as the hitch and almost thief proof. A custom nut that won’t turn in the tube will work best.

Why didn’t I think of this. Harbor Freight has a Anti-Rattle Hitch Tightener. That is what they call it. It prevents sway in your 2 or 1 1/4 hitch and will work great for a generator carrier. It’s a U bolt that fits over the hitch with a plate over the bottom that when tightened down prevents all sway. Cost $12. KISS keep it simple stupid.

I can't find just where i originally found it, but somewhere I saw a hitch mount cargo carrier that had a fold down ramp off of one end..... for a gen set with wheels that might be an option

Will it be sturdy enough? I really don’t want to be lifting it in/out of the bed of the truck. Plus there isn’t much room because I installed a 40 gallon tank/toolbox behind the cab.

Have you ever thought of putting a receiver on the front of your truck and hauling it that way. I haul my motorcycle, and its buttery smooth with the trucks suspension vs. the rear of our bouncy trailers

I`ve changed my mind on a rear carrier after reading this

From Facebook group and another reason this is my last Keystone.......

Frustrated and once again looking to the group for advice. Our Montana has been at a dealer in East Texas (who's been great to deal with, not dealer's fault) since November 18th. They have been getting the run around with Keystone and Keystone has denied to fix the front frame flex under warranty because I had a shop strengthen the rear receiver in the back. It is rated for 300lbs, but the rack with a generator on it (total 160 lbs) was a bit too bouncy for my liking. 3 months and they finally found a reason to deny the claim. That being said, has anyone paid out of pocket for this repair? If so, ballpark how much we're looking at. The dealer is going to put together a bid and get back with me at some point. Extremely frustrated with Keystone and their chicken $hit excuses. — feeling annoyed.

Do not confuse FRAMES. You welded onto the chassis frame. Whats cracking on keystone products is the aluminum box frame. So i agree with you that your addition to trailer frame strength does not affect their aluminum frame at the front. You may need to hire an engineer to review your issue and if they concur and will testify in a lawsuit for you file suit. But im not an engineer. Our 2022 3791rd Legacy has a 3000 lb factory hitch on it. Best of luck. We did find Keystone to be reasonable and repaired ours after it cracked on our first rv trip
