A member asked for campground recommendations along the Beartooth Highway, hoping to take a 32 foot Class C because it would be easier for his wife, who has arthritis. One member reported driving the route in a truck camper and described it as beautiful, with steep grades and many turns, while another planned to drive a Cody, Beartooth, Yellowstone, Fishing Bridge loop and offered to report back afterward.

No specific campgrounds on the Beartooth Highway were recommended in the replies. The...

Has anyone camped on the Bear Tooth Highway?
Where would you recommend?
I’d like to camp on the Bear Tooth if my wife can manage it with her arthritis. We would probably take our 32 foot class C and leave the High Country at home. The C is easier on her than being confined in the trunk.

We haven't camped there but did drive the truck camper on that highway back in September of 2015. Beautiful scenery. Steep hills and lots of turns. I'd like to do it again soon.

Thanks the trunk would be a little confined. Spell check will get you.
If you can’t laugh at yourself you shouldn’t laugh at anyone.

Will be too late to help you, but I am doing the loop from Cody to the Bearthooth entrance to the park, down the east side to fishing bridge and back to Cody. Will be done by July 12. If I can be of service I can post what I find. Oh, by the way, one of the reasons I am doing this is I saw on Facebook (I think) that the tallest bridge in Wyoming is on this route. Goes over a canyon and they built a walkway and parking to get a better view looking down. (my wife may not get too close tho- LOL)

Thanks twindman. Yes that will help. If my wife can make it we will leave after that.
There is a bridge fairly close to us the road is closed for one day so people can parachute off of it. The New River Valley SP. And no I haven’t tried it. Only two things fall of of bridges fools and pigeon $/&? .

Yes you are close, up in Giles Co. You should go see the Burks Garden. It’s one of the prettiest places I’ve ever seen. Imagine a bowl with 28,000 acres of rolling form land in the bottom and pasture a third the way up the mountain. It’s in Taswell Co

No like I said earlier my wife has a hard time traveling. I sure do miss it. The game elk moose bears antelope rock chunks and the fishing most the scenery oh yeah the night sky. Maybe this year fingers crossed.
Have you been up there. My friend says Dubois has changed so much I wouldn’t recognize it.

If you’re interested do a Google search for Cowboy State Daily Dan Kinneman. Dan has been a friend for 30+ years. He was an outfitter in Dubois most of his life. If you want to know where in Wyoming to go he is the guy to ask.

Lynwood, I spent a week in Dubois last year and going again this year. Both times during July 4!!! Pretty good parade for a small town- not many parades with a real tank driving in it!
This is my last year also. Wife has trouble climbing in the truck! ha ha Also, in 2023 the engine blew on the truck and spent 33 days in Pagosa Springs and canceled something like 10-12 reservations - including 9 days for 2 campsites at Fishing Bridge! Dang - they had just expanded the rv park for long pull thrus. While driving thru on way to Montana, the place was a zoo, so to speak! Parking lots full, and cars 1/4 mile along the road. Sad.

Sorry. Like my wife has a hard time setting in the truck or class C. My finical advisor told me years ago get it done before you are 70 because people tend to quit after that.
