We just buying our very first 5th wheel camper. 2008 KEYSTONE MONTANA 36.

Our plan is to place the rig on our property in the UP of Michigan as a vacation home. We of course will winterize the unit and cover it during the winter.

Any tips or secrets for doing that will be greatly appreciated.

Looking forward to many happy times at the lake.

Welcome aboard! Many here can attest that those older Montys were built really well. Take care of it and it can last a long time.

Some put covers on their rigs, some don’t. I think it depends a lot on exposure to higher winds. We use a cover and that has served us well. Our location is fairly well protected and we’ve never had a problem. We like keeping the winter off of the rig.

Welcome to the forums and congrats on getting your Montana. It sounds like you have an interesting plan you have formulated there for the future use of your property.

I'm not sure what kind of "tips" to give you, except this: If you have specific questions about your new camper or questions about set-up and using it, repairs, and fixes, feel free to post those questions on this forum site and someone WILL have an answer and provide you with the necessary information to be successful.

Perhaps the next "tip" is to keep a level head and work your way through any situation you encounter. Start simple and the least cost effective and if "that" does not work, escalate to the next level of difficulty and / or cost for a solution.

And maybe 3rd! .... keep a screw driver handy!

Good luck, enjoy, and welcome to the forums!

I have a pretty well preserved '04 Montana. One thing I did figure out about 4 - 5th wheels ago... Covering did not bold well for us in the ND winters. While the wind didn't tear it apart, the constant rubbing in the same spots all of the time wore the finish off of parts of the shell. Since then, we have never covered it and it seems to do OK. I do need to get on the roof and shovel snow off of the roof from time to time because of weight concerns, but I would have the same issue if the rig was covered.

Enjoy your vacation home!
