I know there have been multiple posts on every RV / Camping forum on the internet asking what is the best or the easiest way to clean the awning. I've read many, many, many of them.
So, I finally got around to washing my awning. We are getting ready to leave Louisiana this Saturday for North Carolina for a 2 month camp host there and figured now would be a good time to touch up the camper. The back awning was getting pretty bad. (my Montana High Country has an awning on both sides, as it has doors on both sides too).
Anyway, I really wanted to take the easy path this time, so I tried the "soap it up and roll it up method." When I unrolled it, I didn't see any difference.
So while it still had a good coat of soapy water all over it, I used my soft RV scrub brush on the painter's wand and scrubbed it standing below. Yes.... by now I'm soaking wet from all the water dripping.
Still, nothing. No real noticeable change.
OK... I went back to the method that has always worked, and worked well for me. I got a 10 foot ladder and my Mr. Clean scrub pads. And the dirt literally melted off. Of course, now, I'm completely wet .... and covered in soap. But hey, here in Louisiana right now, the morning temps (yes, I did this at 6:30 am) was still 80 degrees and the humidity, probably a couple thousand percent! I'm not sure what made me more wet, water dripping from the awning above me, or sweat dripping from my brow!
Bottom line, Mr. Clean Magic Eraser on the awning STILL works the best, even though it does take manual work to do it, requires a ladder and working above your head, a good garden hose to spray the residue off, and a set of clothes you don't mind getting wet .... including foot ware! Yes, my arms are now tired. But, the awning is beautiful again.
Here's some photos. The first photo was taken after I tried the "roll up method" and then followed up with the "scrub it down method". As you can see, when I started with the Mr. Clean method, ..... well .... you can see what happened.
When it was finished, this is what it looked like. Um.... you DON'T want to see a photo of what "I" looked looked when done .... suffice it to say, I looked like a drowned rat!
It hard work, but Mr. Clean is still the best! I'm just grateful all it takes is a "swipe" with the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, and no "scrubbing" is required. My 69 year old arms are aching right now from holding that brush and scrubbing with it.
