When we arrived at the beach, i had noticed when I cranked up the air antenna that some drops of water were leaking down. Weather was nice, so I mentioned to DW that I needed at some point to get on the roof for a look-see. Being the typical male procrastinator, I managed to put it out of my mind until yesterday evening when one of the beach deluges hit and water started seeping. It was time for a quick engineering fix since there was no way I was going on the roof in the downpour! Looking around I spotted a Longaberger basket with a plastic liner filled with napkins and quickly surmised that it was the temporary solution I needed. I hung it over the crank and marvelled at myself for the ingenuity! DW returns and was not happy nor impressed with my solution, but did find it comical enough to insist on a picture with me next to the new style on interior Montana decorating! All is good now, finally went on the roof and discovered the often forum problem of the rubber boot being displaced. A two sexond repair later and the basket is no longer needed. :D:D

I noticed a small stain about 3" in diameter on the bedspread directly under the antenna. Having just changed out the bedspread and leaving it at the beach for a few days till we got back, I knew it had to be something from outside. So up on the roof and checked my cable boot. It was cracked. Filled with silicone and put back on and secured with a miniature wire tie. I think that should hold it.

Silicon and miniature wire tie? Don't you know that was a job for duct tape and bailing wire? [:o)]

Bingo, a common repair is to squirt some clear sealant down along side the coax where it goes down into the rig. Make sure you get some sealant on the outside of the hole then slide the boot back down over the coax. Every rig we've ever had developed this problem. Fix it once and forget it.

Reminds me of the time I used Louise' Tupperware cake cover as an oil drain pan. Fortunately that was a long time ago but she still brings it up around friends.
